Summary: beautiful collage of sounds for body, soul and brain
Comment: rarley do you find music that you can went insane on the dance floor or contemplate on your bus ride to home/work or just stare at the wall wondering how this talented artists made such great and groundbraking music that layed the foundation of music to come. I only came in contact with their music recently and what i heard is familiar sounds from bands whose music i love, like ESG, Gang of Four, PiL, and bands that came years after them but were probably influenced by them like !!!, LCD and many more...

Summary: Absolutely essential album, just make sure you know exactly what you're getting for your money
Comment: Liquid Liquid is absolutely essential if you like bass and percussion-driven post-punk like PiL, ESG and Gang of Four. I hear a little Can in their music as well, which is more than fine with me. Old-school hip-hop fans might dig it too because of the Grandmaster Flash connection, but there's no rapping, and the vocals (of which there aren't much) consist of barely intelligible John Lydon-esque wails and moans, also not unlike Damo Suzuki of Can. Again, this is more than fine with me.

Unfortunately, the prices for this hard-to-find CD are getting outrageous, and the item you're buying from resellers may not be the original 1997 release on Grand Royal, but what's called a "CD on-demand" release produced by a company called The Disc Kiosk who work in conjunction with Universal Music to release simplified versions of Universal's back catalog. They are official releases and they have the original artwork, but the original liner notes are not included and the art on the CD label is simplified. It's great, but it's still not the original 1997 Grand Royal release from a collector's standpoint.

I paid half a Ben Franklin on another used/resale website (but the same seller does do business on Amazon as well) and I received the CD-on-demand release. I guess I was lucky since I could have paid even more, but I could have just gone to the Disc Kiosk's eBay store or website and gotten the exact same item for less than a double sawbuck. It is an official release, and the sound quality is exactly the same as the original release, but I still felt like I was taken. Rather than complain about it, I figured I would just give others that want to own this CD a heads-up.

If you are interested in the CD-on-demand release (which is a great buy if you're paying the normal price and not overinflated collector prices) check the Disc Kiosk's eBay store, or their website, which is easy enough to google. If you're buying from resellers, always ask whether you're buying the 1997 Grand Royal release or the 2004 CD-on-demand release from the Universal Music Archive Collection.

Summary: Hello, Amazon - this review is of "Liquid Liquid" album "Reis" - these **other** reviews are clearly mis-filed.
Comment: I've never heard this record in it's original form. All I've heard is the classic 'White Lines', and Liquid Liquid deserve 5 stars just for (inadvertantly) helping make that happen.

All these other reviews, I don't know what they're talking about. Hello, Amazon - these other reviews are clearly misfiled. For Pete's sake, one refers to some sort of a vaginal yeast product.

Summary: Native People
Comment: Listening to this CD has been a discovery of a type of music I had never been exposed to. It is purely magical and very original. It has allowed me to connect with Canada's northern native peoples in an exciting way. I highly recommend this album to music fans who wish to explore new types of sounds and cultures.

Summary: This CD is the best
Comment: I got this in cassette form when it first came out. I found it the other day when I was cleaning out a drawer.

Lucky for me.

There is not one bad cut in this collection. I especially like WHEN OCTOBER GOES...and the cuts with Sassy and The Velvet Fog....they're both gone now...and that made me sad, but having their instruments forever captured on tape/CD is certainly consoling.

This is the perfect time of year to purchase this CD (or find it again). It reminds me of Central Park in December....sad and lonely, but still so beautiful!

Editorial Reviews:

Most of the groundbreaking no-wave funk released in the early 1980s on the 99 label is in limbo, but Grand Royal has seen fit to reissue three Liquid Liquid EPs plus live tracks. Who were Liquid Liquid? A bunch of white art-school types, whose "Cavern" formed the basis for "White Lines"--the following lawsuit sank both 99 and Sugarhill Records. This EP is as much Steve Reich as James Brown as Fela Kuti and sums ups most of New York City's musical obsessions of the period. Minimalist bass, trance-like vibes and occasional melodica and you're left wondering why anyone would choose to listen to acid-jazz, when we have godhead such as this. --D. Strauss
