Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: Metal Guitars Meet Roadhouse Blues Comment: I find this album irresistable, cover and all. This band knows how to rock those country blues and country jump. I don't just mean they exhibit the right attitude, they have the chops. Check out guitarist Josh Zee's YouTube video on "behind the nut bends". Singing, playing song writing, these Truckers walk the walk. For an independent band, the production values are excellent too. There's lots of ways to achieve quality. One way is to set lofty goals and get as close as humanly possible. The other way is to try for something accessible and pull it off perfectly. The is the second, in a big way. Hot damn, that's fun. Customer Rating: Summary: Disappointing CD From a Band That I Like Alot Comment: I really love this band's first two releases. Broke Not Broken was sooo tasty. Plus I just love supporting indie bands. So what happened with this one? Seems like some of the band's more irritating qualities have begun taking over. Josh is a technically gifted guitar player, but he needs to reel it in a bit. Especially on this release where he really gets into Noodle-roni territory. We know you're great but knock it off, man. A little less would be a lot more. The arrangements on alot of this album are too in-your-face and over the top. What used to be fun on previous releases is now bludgeoning us over the head. The songwriting on this one seems a few steps down from the first two releases too. Especially musically where most of the tunes are predictable cliches. The lyrics are still witty, as on previous releases, but they don't have much melodic freshness on which to hang themselves. Teal Collins is one of the great unsung female vocalists in the USA (and I used to love listening to her dad's, Al "Jazzbo" Collins' radio show way back when on KPPC), but she just isn't featured enough on this release. This girl can sing the pants off of most any chick out there. She shines here, when given the chance and a sympathetic, non-overbearing arrangement. The high points on this one are the cover of Billy Joe Shaver's "When I Get My Wings," the ukelele driven "I'll Meet You There," "Can't Sleep In Tucson," and "The Soul's Journey Home." The title track is certainly witty, but hardly worthy of naming an album after, due to its predictable lowest common denominator retreaded melody line. Although it helps with the cover concept, and I'm sure it's fun live. Nice try Mother Truckers, but I think this may be the first time you've released something which I don't enthusiastically and wholeheartedly endorse. Nevertheless, thanks for putting it out, because it does have some great moments. See ya if you ever play out my way. Customer Rating: Summary: Music at it's best!!!! Comment: The third Mother Truckers CD, Let's All Go To Bed is a continuation of more great music from a band that blends styles together so well it is hard to categorize their work. It is a fusion of Blues, Country, Rock, Americana and a little bit of old school ukulele from the past. With their new rhythm section their live sound has become more powerful and this CD captures that energy. The primary members Teal Collins and Josh Zee form a duo that shares the vocals and guitars. Ms. Collins has never sounded better and her powerful voice shines on Billy Joe Shaver's "When I Get My Wings" but shows a softer side on "Quiet Night". Mr. Zee not only has mastered the electric guitar he pushes it to new heights. Buy this and all their CD's but remember to catch them live as well. More Reviews
