Summary: The Brave Face and Voice of Delta
Comment: While I am sure everyone has made their best Delta Dawn reference, and talked clueless by comparing her to Celine Dion, I found this musical experience to be quite inspirational and unique.
Delta certainly has a lot going for her that could very well be abused by American music executives. A beautiful woman that would make Heidi Klum reveal Victoria's Secret and quit modeling. A voice that will attract all the brainwashed Grobacelliken types. And one David Fosterized song away from making Celine be her opening act. -- However, I do not sense this is her desire in her young life, based on her song writing, and her horrific younger years experience.
The fact that Americans don't know who she is now, is just a matter of time. Delta is huge outside USA. But, so is David Hasselhoff. But I would trade them in a heartbeat. Even without the looks and voice, her future songwriting will be thrilling to watch. Being a young cancer survivor is inspirational enough, but her experience will bring brilliance because she knows what life is about. She is certain to enlighten us for years to come.
This album is a bright addition to pop and adult contemporary audiences, but has a little something for everyone. And that would be the only negative, as a single producer is needed. David Foster would be stupid not to jump on her next album. Throw in a Buble duet and guest spot on Oprah, and she's golden. With that, she can then do what SHE wants, and not be a marketing project.
I look forward to her future albums and her real voice.

Summary: What would happen if Celine Dion and Olivia Newton John mated?
Comment: Something maudlin. Delta's sound is managed and abused to the point of mandatory incarceration for damaging one's hearing. It's really not that bad, but you want it to be. You want it to be something, anything other than what it is, which is nauseatingly bland. Not with good headphones, not with digital stereo, not with a nice cup of tea, not with a system that goes to eleven. Pure 70s fluff meets a very expensive recording studio that you MUST understand is the best! Oh please. Delta, just write your own songs and go sing in the toilet. Take a Sansa in there with you and record it. It would be infinitely better than having to sort you out from all the fantastic whatever it is playing around your voice. Someone demanded Jewel play her guitar and sing into a microphone with little else behind her. Surely someone can convince you to try the same approach? I know it's wonderful to be a bird in a gilded cage full of incredible sound equipment, but must we share your enthusiasm? At a time when Annie Lennox's 'Bare' redefines female vocals, you are taking us back somewhere close to Xanadu. It was good then because no one knew better. Please don't make us relive that sound again. You're really good. perhaps among a handful of the best. So be that, not someone else's version of 'marvelous'.
I'm sorry. I tried to like it. I really did. After three plays of all the songs I found myself humming the theme to the Munsters - anything, anything to give this CD substance. Maybe next time. Good news - someone's auntie who didn't get tickets to see Celine Dion in Las Vegas will LOVE this.

Summary: Decent music but not outstanding
Comment: I found the songs and music on this cd pleasant to listen to for the most part. Of the 12 songs, 3 were excellent: Bare Hands, a mix of light hip hop and soft rock; God Laughs, a somewhat deeper theme and more philosophical; and Woman, the lamentations of a woman who seeks the attention of her lover. This song is poignant in its simplicity. The rest of the songs were average one-time attention grabbers but not something that you yearn to listen to repeatedly. One song in particular, One Day, was downright corny, which is surprising in a debut cross-over cd. Goodrem's voice can be soothing and uplifting, but a couple of times she seemed to attempt Shakira's falsetto shriek - not good. A couple of songs also seemed to have Broadway show-type instrumentals or background voices, which were too theatrical and out of place. I'd recommend this album for occasional listening.

Summary: Bluesy and pleasant
Comment: Not my usual listening style but I thought I would try it, and it was pleasant enough but not so that I would buy it. Delta has a country style that is borderline blues, but her voice doesn't have that deep strength to carry her thru the years like Joplin or Crow or others who seem to have a strong following.
