Customer Rating: Summary: maybe not his best, but still pretty awesome. Comment: So this isn't my favorite of all Dieselboy's commercial mixes (that would still be the Sixth Session..) but it's pretty awesome all the same. Good tracks, good mixes, and to this day I swear that when he's half asleep Damien still mixes better than more than half of the competition.
Worth the purchase for the 2nd CD alone, as per usual.
Customer Rating: Summary: Hard hitting all the Way Comment: Wow 5/5
Words can't explain how good "substance D" is
The whole CD is a stimulation of the senses, ITS a must have for any Dieselboy Fans.
Customer Rating: Summary: Don't waste your money on this, buy Andy C Nightlife 4 instead Comment: I bought this album last week. I originally went to the store in hopes of them having Andy C Nightlife 4 in stock, but they didn't and I saw this album. I though well Dieselboy usually puts out good solid albums, so I'll give it a try.
I put it in the cd player as soon as I got in the car. My car has a pretty good system with an amp and box, D'n'B sounds great in it.
To me it sounded like some parts of the cd the highs were drowned by too much bass. Although the production sounds pretty good, it seems it could've been mastered better.
Now the reason I gave it such a low rating. This cd did not have good rhythm, it doesn't have good flow to it, and at parts it's going strong and hard then it just cuts out and a few seconds later cuts back in. Bad Mixing. Parts of it sound like Dieselboy just went through his sound library and randomly threw some sounds in there.
I love Dark, Evil, Techy, Fast, Hard, Synthetic Drum and Bass. I've been listening to it for many years now. At least since 1999 and raving days. I've been a fan of Diesleboy for a while as well, and own every CD he put out except for now this one and "The HUMAN Resource" just never got around to picking that one up.
Just to give you and Idea of my D'n'B taste. Some of the artist that I like are Dillija and Lemon D, Andy C, Ed Rush and Optical, Dom and Roland, Total Science, AK 1200, DB, Dara, and some other ones (Roni Size, Dj Die, D Product). "Ed Rush and Optical - Out of the Box" is my all time favorite album as well as Andy C Nightlife 1-4. I almost forgot Bad Company and Pendulum.
This CD has a few tracks that are worth listening to, but I don't think it's worth the price and it's definitely not worth being in my CD collection.
Like I said go get Andy C Nighlife 4 instead. Thanks to Amoeba's 75% store credit return policy, I returned this CD and got that one. Put it in my CD player and listened to the first 15 tracks without switching or fast forwarding at all, and so far so good. It put a smile on my face. I though that's what drum and bass should sound like. Will finish the rest of the cd tomorrow.
I hope Dieselboy comes back with something better than this.
Customer Rating: Summary: "WE WANT YOUR SOUL!" Comment: How many years have passed since DSL's last album? Seems like forever... and in the process, I find that I have grown apart from the Dark-Tech-Step DnB ala DSL, Evol Intent, Ewan, Technical Itch, etc. In those few years, my taste in jungle seems to have shifted from the hellish darkness of Dieselboy et al and right smack in the middle of the hard-step styles of Urban Assault djs Faust and Shortee (in which the funky gratification of each song seems instantaneous).
It was not until my second run of Substance D blasting through my brain that I realized where my heart REALLY belongs... STRAIGHT DOWN UNDER THE TECHNOLOGICAL-CYBORNETIC-HELLISH (heaven?) EMPIRE which can only be properly administered by Damien Higgins, M.D.
I am fairly certain that I enjoyed his last work, "The Human Resource" a bit more. However, one thing is most assured... the more I listen to "Substance D", the more I friggin LOVE it!
So, thank you DSL, for renewing my love for music that makes me wanna vomit blood all over my fiance!
Customer Rating: Summary: This is what a Rave In Hell would sound like. Comment: Finally! Dieselboy has finally released a new cd and this one does not disappoint.
I think the best way to sum this album up is to say the following:
If you were hiking alone with your iPod and you leg was caught in a bear trap, this new Dieselboy album would give you the courage to cut your own leg off.
When listening to this album at the gym, I wanted to drop my weights and just sucker-punch the biggest dude at the gym....then eat his face.
When listening to this album in my car (bad-*ss system), I wanted to drive head-on into oncoming traffic on the interstate.
When listening to this album in the shower, I wanted to punch a hole right through the tile.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to need to acquire a meth addiction to fully enjoy and keep up with this album.
Bravo Dieselboy....Bravo!
