Summary: I'm a new fan and all I can say is It Rocks !
Comment: I really like this album. I got it after hearing one of their songs used in a Formula 1 video and had to find out what it was. It turned out to be Propane Nightmares which is awesome. The guys who put together the video did a great job matching it with the action onscreen, do check it out, I must have watched it a million times and I still hear the engines racing even when I listen to the CD, LOL.

Much to my surprise, after listening to the CD for awhile, I ended up liking just about all of it! My initial feelings were great, I only like one song (Propane) but give it time, its really great and worth a look. I will definitely check out their first album (that others say its better is hard to believe). I mostly listen to rock/alt myself, Radiohead and Muse are 2 of my favs. I don't usually listen to dance/electronica which is what I would say this is but its got more attitude than what I'd expect. Plus being a child of the 80's, the sounds of synthesizers brings me back to the music of that decade along with memories of playing videogames (and yes I love that classic midi-style music).

Summary: Pendulum still HOLDS ITS COLOUR
Comment: After several weeks of listening this album gets consistently better. At first I was upset that they seemed to have lost their true essence of D&B. Yes, it is not like Hold Your Colour in the traditional D&B sense, but this album is truly original for its incredible hybridization of rock and D&B. I cant stop myself from rocking out to this album when it plays...in fact I SHOULD BE, and JUST WAS writing an important paper due tomorrow but when this album came on my random playlist, I had to just stop and give this review. The only real criticism I would have is that it feels like they tried to make some songs longer than they should have been. Every song is just about the same length, and it seems unnecessary in some of them.

Heres a somewhat cheesy breakdown...

From the very beginning the album throws you into an intense SHOWDOWN between what Pendulum is known for and what they are evolving into. It truly sends you into a DIFERENT realm of musical excitement and gives you anything but NIGHTMARES! Beautiful VISIONS overwhelm my imagination and keep my brain RUNNING to and from THE OTHER SIDE of Pendulum's musical prowess. The sheer MUTINY that they display in the face of unoriginality is enough to make me want to travel 9000 MILES to find another artist like them...*cough* i like GRANITE counter tops btw....anyways, this album is sure to cause quite a TEMPEST amongst the musical industry.

Summary: The New Pendulum?
Comment: In the years building upto "In Silico" Pendulum has changed drastically. Not just the style of the group, but the band itself. Pendulum went from 3 members to 6! This being said, their newer music incorporates many different styles of music. More collaborative. I love this cd, and I think it's great, but it is really different then "Hold Your Colour," which was a complete stroke of genius. Instead of playing raves, pendulum is now playing concerts. Visions, the Other Side, Grantie, and Show down have to be some of my favorite tracks on this cd. There is not a song I didn't like on the cd. But I do not think I would classify it as Drum and Bass or the previous Jungle category that pendulum would fit into. New pendulum is a style of its own. Bringing more pop, rock, and hip-hop elements into their music. Also, not to mention all of the singing.
Bottom line: This is a great cd, but if you're buying it because you are a pendulum fan, you might be surprised, or even disappointed.

Summary: Where did Pendulum go?
Comment: Well, damn. I can't say much more about this album; I was looking for a killer followup to Hold Your Colour, with all of that classic Pendulum spice and energy. I was expecting new and inventive beats, no matter what direction they went in; I was expecting a beautifully polished shaped piece of work, weaving in subtle layers to produce a deliciously tasty whole. I'd heard that Pendulum had changed styles, gone in a different direction, and I came in thinking that whatever they did, they'd make it rock just as hard as Hold Your Colour.

But sadly, I didn't get a lick of that from this album. I listened to it through a couple times, and I got --- well, I'm not sure how to describe what kind of a letdown this album was. The style isn't offensive, but the lack of finish and polish surely is. Pendulum takes their inventive ideas from Hold Your Colour and comes up with a couple of new ones, but all the tracks go the same way on In Silico: you start off by thinking, "this is an interesting concept; I wonder how they'll develop it". But they never do -- it's the same thing for three minutes or four minutes or seven minutes.

The only track that comes near having the same level of taste and attention to detail is The Other Side, which is a neat fusion of oldschool Hold Your Colour-era Pendulum and almost something on the order of Ratatat with the delicious fusion of rhythm and arpeggiated leads.

So, good try, Pendulum. You can do what you're trying to do, but this isn't it. My only questions after this are: what went wrong? Where did Pendulum go?

Summary: What happened to the Drum n Bass?
Comment: I feel totally dissapointed by this album. Hold your Colours was genious Drum N Bass, now this one seems like a totally different band. Sucks when bands differ in their style so much they sound like someone else.

Please get back to doing Drum N Bass. Too much singing, too much rock, this is not what I came to listen from Pendulum.
