Customer Rating: Summary: A Great CD Comment: Being a fan a Bind Melon for quite sometime I was both scared and excited to hear that they were putting out a new album. Having picked up the band members solo projects from after Shannon's death (Abandon Jalopy, Extra Virgin, and Unified Theory) and liking those, I knew that the music would not be bad at all. Travis does fine job on vocals and no one but Shannon Hoon himself could do a better job...Although I do miss his energy.
If you liked Blind Melon's music before, For My Friends is an outstanding come back.
Customer Rating: Summary: Solid from Start to Finish Comment: This album is very solid from the minute you start listening, until the final note has faded from your ear drum. The songs in-between are both catchy and full of that grunge rock sound that enticed so many people in the early nineties. There is enough substance here to keep you coming back for more than just one play through. After more than a dozen times hearing the album, I am still discovering new notes and lyrics that I missed somehow in previous sessions.
This is really a must have for those who loved the era from which this band originally started. Blind Melon has come a long way through a tough journey, but they have stayed true to their roots and produced a fine album.
Customer Rating: Summary: Perfect Comment: This record is perfect. I saw Blind Melon on 4/20/08 in Houston. We were on the front row, infront of Chris. They rocked it for 2 solid hours.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not Bad For 1st Attempt in 12 Years! Comment: This album is a an excellent attempt to start where they left off. Tracvis Warren's voice is eerily familiar. The songs are above average, but none have potential to be a hit single. The best song on the album is track 8, which I feel would be their only shot for radio play. There are some other great tracks on the album, but none that will me memorable. The lyrics are ok, but you will never be able to recreate the lyrical genius of Shannon Hoon. He was a true poet. Overall, I am pleased with the album, but on their next one I would like them to return to the sounds of old. I thought the album was a little too safe for me. They need to take more risks on the next one. Nice to have you guys back though.
Customer Rating: Summary: Head not the nay-sayers Comment: Ignore the negative comments. The current line-up is not trying to cash in on anything or anyone. They are simply continuing the message. It's been 12 years and the loss of of a great talent, but they have gained a new talent who was raised on Shannon's beauty. It's no surprise that people learn from and in some ways mimic their mentors. That is what makes this reunion work so well. Travis can sing the old tunes great and the new tunes have the same feel good vibe that Blind Melon has always given off. If you see them live in their current state it's a truly magical experience and you could swear Shannon's soul is bouncing all around the venue. That is what it's about, not money. The embarrassment is that there are Blind Melon fans who can be so close minded they are unable to see the good in this. You don't have to like it, but don't talk so harshly about it just because you have the misfortune of not getting it. Simply say you don't feel the magic anymore. Just because you heart has grown up doesn't mean Blind Melon has done anything to tarnish their credibility or Shannon's honor.

The recently reborn Blind Melon will release their first studio album in thirteen years this spring. It introduces new singer Travis Warren as a replacement for late front man Shannon Hoon, who died in 1995. Warren joins original members Rogers Stevens, Christopher Thorn, Brad Smith, and Glen Graham. "This record's a great rock 'n' roll record," Warren says. "It's kind of like (1995's) 'Soup' - the more you listen to it, the more it grows on you." Without eschewing familiar Blind Melon sounds, the album ventures off on tracks like "Sometimes". According to Warren, "We definitely want to experiment and do different things."
