Summary: the Stones are still relevant
Comment: Shine a Light is an excellent CD. The Stones energy, music and attitude haven't faded. It was also fun that they had a few guest artists. I bought several CDs to give as gifts to my old rocker friends.

Summary: Shine a little
Comment: Shine a light, is the soundtrack of the movie with the same name. I didn't see teh movie yet, but as a Stones fan, I have to buy this record. But in a collection it is not essential, there is nothing new!

You could have done better boys!

Summary: Go and see the movie!
Comment: Like many fans of the "good ole' days" of the Stones, I also thought they were past it...until seeing the movie over the weekend! Scorsese has redefined the rock concert video! Absolutely brilliant. Had the good fortune of seeing it in IMAX so maybe that's what gave it something extra. It was almost like being at the show. Just My Imagination is a revelation. To some they may be a bunch of old geezers, but they can still blow most youngsters off the stage. Went out and bought the CD...not quite the same experience but still worth a listen. But can't wait for the DVD to come out!

Summary: Light at the end of the tunnel?
Comment: Much hype has surrounded this release, as being something special. Maybe Martin Scorscese can conjure up some magic and capture the energy of the show in his forthcoming docco of the Stones in concert, but there is no real spark in the CD version. There are some highlights and these involve the songs with Buddy Guy and Jack White as well as some songs not on the Stones concert playlists over the years. At other times, they appear to be overplaying and rushing, when a more laid back approach would have created a better 'groove' to the album. It's always a trap with live recordings in that being there is not always captured on disc. All in all, it is not a bad CD, and is typically 'Stonesy' but maybe they should have waited until later with a combined CD & DVD release. Have been a Stones fan for years but I suspect that this is the end of the road as it just seems like they are going through the motions now. Maybe there is a hint here of something else to come; songs with Buddy Guy, Jack White and Scorscese's previous Blues music doccos may just convince the Stones to do what many of us feel they have always done best, and return to the Blues.

Editorial Reviews:

THE ROLLING STONES `Shine A Light' is the soundtrack to director MARTIN SCORSESE'S film of the same name, which documents The Rolling Stones' performances at New York's Beacon Theatre on October 29 and November 1, 2006. With special guests BUDDY GUY, White Stripes' JACK WHITE III and CHRISTINA AGUILERA joining the Stones onstage, the Oscar-winning director captures an extraordinary performance from the band.

DELUXE VERSION - 2 disc set, featuring 22 tracks with expanded packaging. Includes every track from the film, plus four bonus tracks from the shows that were not included in the film- "Paint It Black", "Little T&A", "Shine A Light" and "I'm Free"
