Customer Rating: Summary: Umm, Excuse me...could you keep it down? Comment: I was very excited once I saw that Bobby Broom put out another trio album. When I saw that it was all standards I got even more excited...I really love hearing modern guys throw back and play tunes like Donna Lee, if you have never heard Kurt Rosenwinkel play straight ahead you should definitly get "East Coast Love Affair". This cd however has a fatal flaw, the people in the club are loud as hell, as if there is no music going on whatsoever, at least on some of the tracks. I went to buy the mp3 album but stopped myself after hearing how ridiculously loud the audience is, especially on Fly Me To The Moon...you could practically follow their conversations. Why didn't the owners of the bar or even Bobby himself tell the audience that they are recording a record...seriously, this was a big let down for me. I gave it three stars because the playing sounds great but I don't want to have to struggle to hear it. Oh well, I guess I'll wait for the next record.

Editorial Reviews:

Jazz guitarist Bobby Broom has been exploring the trio format to rewarding effect not only in his last two CDs, but on a weekly basis for the last ten years at the Evanston eatery called Pete Miller's Steakhouse - the place Broom calls his 'laboratory.' On his new Origin CD, The Way I Play, Broom delves into a program of jazz standards and American songbook classics with longtime trio-mates Dennis Carroll, on bass, and drummer Kobie Watkins. The chemistry is palpable - and pleasurable - in these eight performances, which capture highlights from what the Chicago Tribune calls 'one of the best ongoing engagements' in the Chicago area.
