Customer Rating: Summary: Too Bluesy Comment: This album is hailed as Skynyrds best, but I totally disagree. I like "What's Your Name," but as a whole Steve Gaines brough too much of a blues influence into the mix for my taste. The Skynyrd that included Ed King totally ROCKED. Even when he left and there were only two guitar players it was better than this album. I think if they would've continued in this blues direction they would've been dropped from their record label for the lack of a hit. Plus, they were all getting fat...and anytime a big rock band introduces 3 female back-up singers, the end is near.
Customer Rating: Summary: The Definitive Edition Comment: I see a lot of conflicting reviews here, and frankly, I don't get it - Any big fan of this band should love this release. If you are a casual fan of the band and/or you don't care if this is the best sounding remaster up to this point, then get the standard edition and save some moolah. But if you love this band and/or you're looking for the best sounding version of the original album, this is just the ticket. The overall difference in mastering quality isn't tremendous, but inadequacies that existed from song to song have been rectified. It's obvious that each track got its own mastering instead of just setting the controls and applying it to the whole album. This was the best way to do this album since it was derived from three different recording studios using three different engineers and three different producers.
The first version of this album, that the band recorded in Miami, is on the second disc, and it's clear why the band didn't like it - it was more laid back and quiet - a departure from the bands rip-roaring and brawling reputation. They added some fire to it when they re-recorded it in Georgia, but the Miami version is still very interesting, and it would have been the album we all know if the band hadn't gotten cold feet!
Customer Rating: Summary: Street Survivors Lynyrd Skynyrd Limited Edition Comment: A fantastic album, that has been restored to its maximum, superb sound and lyrics. An album worth waiting for.
Customer Rating: Summary: Interesting album Comment: First of all, I agree with the guy who said that the live tracks are bootleg quality at best. I bought this album out of sheer curiosity and loyalty to the Skynyrd catalog. I would add that it seems disconcerting that MCA/Universal would revoke the fire cover out of respect for the families of Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, and Dean Kilpatrick, then re-release the cover all these years later. Ronnie's and Steve's families are still alive, and I would almost like to get their take on this situation.
Customer Rating: Summary: Kind Of A Rip off Comment: I don't get it. The single Cd of this great CD is very good. It gives you the CD in remastered sound, plus a few bonus cuts. A good value. This "Deluxe" edition gives you the original cd, and then the "Criteria" cd. Both the band and the record company felt the Criteria album was not acceptable, and one listen lets you know why. Then there are the bonus "live" cuts. Anyone expecting good sound is in for a shock. It a poorly recorded bootleg! This "Deluxe" package runs about $30.00 and the only good thing is the original Cd, which is a lot cheaper in the single disc edition. This is the record company trying to make a buck off this legendary band. Shame on them.
