Customer Rating: Summary: "Final" album, damn! Comment: First recording since 1983, damn how their music is timeless. It's a shame that this is the "final" album of Bauhaus. Very mature, very prolific. Not as dark as I wish it to be but, still very inspiring. The very atmospheric "Dogs A Vapor", eventhough not recorded during the same sessions as the rest is very cohesive with the rest of the album. As a whole, the album is great. Cheers to you Bauhaus!
Customer Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Anomaly Comment: Let's face it, folks: Most bands that try to reunite after several decades are doing it for the money or to regain the lost glory days of groupies, drugs and the white-hot spotlight. But they forget little details like, oh, actual musical ideas, good writing, inspired playing, etc. In other words, these reunions usually either suck to the point of being laughable, or, at best, are just pathetic and soporific.
But oh boy is this an exception. Call me blasphemous, but this CD is as good as Bauhaus' best material and considerably better than much of it. It is also better than about 90% of Peter Murphy's solo output, a lot of which I like.
And I am speaking as a fan of these guys. Ever since I first heard "Double Dare", I was hooked, and to the chagrin of every woman who has ever dated me, I listed to this band a LOT (tragically, women who love Bauhaus seem to be a rare breed, at least in my love life; but I digress).
If I were to rate all of Bauhaus' wonderfully dark and menacing output in a continuum from 1 to 10, this CD would get a 9.5. Seriously people, it's that good.
So leave all your aging rock-star reunion recording biases at the door. This one is inspired. It rocks. It is a thing of dark beauty.
Customer Rating: Summary: goin' black Comment: an electrifyingly mind-opening and profound work of art that captures these innovators doing what they do best: pushing the envelope of dark, mysterious and meaningful rock. If there was conflict in this mix, among the personalities involved, then it is hard to tell - or perhaps it fueled the mind-pummeling thunder behind this album. Bauhaus demonstrated their brilliance on the NIN tour, bringing energy and excitement to a wide range of fans. This surprisingly elegant release was created within a short amount of time, though it is obviously supported by mounds of talent and history. It shines with its mysterious little spoken word elements between songs and a keen improvisational ability that reveals the mastery of their art. They channel something from beyond.
Peter Murphy's voice sounds excellent; and the glamorous heroes behind Love and Rockets flesh out their dark leader's prowess with precision-playing. I admire the fact that Daniel Ash (so accomplished in his own right) was self-effacing in giving the vocals up to Peter. This left the work with a real sense of being "Bauhaus," as opposed to a possible duet of dueling egos.
If this is all there is, they have certainly left their mark.
(I was thrilled to see that Peter Murphy is currently on tour. If you have not seen him live, I wholeheartedly recommend making it happen this year!)
Customer Rating: Summary: This cannot possibly be the same band that made "The Passion of Lovers" Comment: "Go Away White" is absolutely one of the worst albums I've heard in the past year. Bauhaus, once upon a time, wrote amazing and passionate songs that were full of life and vigor; that time is not only past, it's not even visible on a clear day anymore. This album's ten tracks seem to blur together; it's all a mess of generic post-punkery that would have been unremarkable in 1984 and is no more remarkable now. Had Bauhaus made music like this in the 80's nobody would remember them today; hopefully we can forget about this album and pretend that Bauhaus stopped putting out new material years ago.
Customer Rating: Summary: Nice comeback for Bauhaus Comment: I didn't expect them to do great but this album is kind of a reminder of the sound that is their signature and they were able to do something new and interesting after all these years being separated. Definitively well done. I hope they'll come up with another album....soon.

Editorial Reviews:

It is virtually impossible to imagine the last 30 years of rock music without the influence of Bauhaus. They have inspired countless bands and have mesmerized the masses with their ability to be simultaneously sparse, dark, anthemic, and glam. With their new album, entitled Go Away White, Peter Murphy Daniel Ash, David J and Kevin Haskins have created an album as exciting and relevant as their earlier work. Echoes of Bauhaus have been heard in the work of their heirs and imitators for the past few decades and 25 years after their last studio release the band have returned with yet another undiluted glimpse into their world.
