Summary: BUY THIS CD!!!
Comment: I really don't see how a true fan of R&B/Soul could have anything negative at all to say about this CD. This is truly one of the most complete work I've heard in a long time. I have my favorites but every song on this CD is CRAZY! The CD as a whole is one of the best out there. Algebra is right up there with India and Alicia, I can't say enough good things about this CD you have to get it yourself to feel me. Her voice is incredible, her lyrics are real, and you can feel it as soon as you hear it....BUY THIS CD, you wont be disappointed!

Summary: Algebra B is what's hott..!!!!
Comment: I had heard the name Algebra before. But, I never paid her any attention. Until I came onto Amazon..and then I actually heard, "What Happened?" I'm always on the search for new artists who bring something different. So, I decided to check it out and needless to say..I am NOT disappointed. I love her voice. She reminds me of Conya Doss. Her voice is sooo smooth..like butta. LOL. Unfortunately..she is a best kept secret..and is definitely slept on. Anyone who reads this..please go support Algebra B!

Summary: DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS!
Comment: Like many others, I have been awaiting and anticipating this CD for almost two years. I first "discovered" Algebra at the Joe/Brian McKnight Concert towards the end of 2006. She opened for them and the song that stood out for me was "What happened." This song performed with a live band and her soulful voice was phenomenal! I'm telling you guys, she rocked that crowd! She belted that song out and I had chills running down my spine! You better believe when she comes to my city, I'll be front and center!! Before she left the stage she put in her plug about where you could find out more about her.

The next day I was all over it. The site she gave was not a big source of help in respect to finding her music, but it gave a lot of background on her which was nice. I did numerous Google searches and all I could find was her MySpace page and some YouTube stuff. I was irritated with iTunes for not having the artist available. I brought my friend an XM radio for her birthday last year and of course, they would play "U do it for me" and "What happened" all the time (can't wait till I upgrade...so sick of mainstream and commercials).

Needless to say, I was delirious with excitement when I went to iTunes this past Sunday to see if I could sample Mariah's CD before it dropped (I couldn't) and they had Algebra's single,
"Run and Hide," as the free pick of the week!! I quickly typed her name into the search box and her complete CD popped up! I usually like to buy the CD for the book that comes with it, but I had been waiting almost two years so I downloaded IMMEDIATELY!! Not to mention her introductory price was only $6.99!! I am still going to purchase the CD for cover sake and also to support this great artist!! I've made copies for my friends and promoted her so much, I feel like I should be on her payroll!

THE CD:

This is what I would call a complete CD- fourteen songs, approximately an hour running time and not one song that I can skip. This is extremely rare for me. Very few artists get 5-star ratings from me or full CD playing time. Oftentimes, I don't even purchase an artist's whole CD, just the songs I like. Algebra Blesset's "Purpose" is a CD that passed this critic's ear. Every song has substance and depth that I can personally relate to. There is a common theme...love, relationships. Listening to the CD is like having Algebra personally sing the writings of her journal entries to me. Algebra really took her time with these songs. The last track "Now and then" is sung acoustically and really showcases her vocals.

My Personal Favs:

Halfway, Run and Hide, U do it for me, What happened, Simple Complication, I think I love you, Come Back- LOL! That's half the CD right there!!

Summation:

What better way to debut yourself than to hit `em hard?

YO, DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS ONE PEOPLE!! YOU ARE DEPRIVING YOURSELF IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THIS IN YOUR AUDIO LIBRARY...IT IS A MUST!!!

Truly a breath of fresh air in an otherwise polluted industry. Keep your eyes and ears open for this talented star on the rise....I'm positive there are even greater things to come from Ms. Blesset in the near future.

Happy Listening!!

Summary: So-So aint So Good.
Comment: After seeing Algebra's music associated with Ledisi, Badu and others like Bilal, Elisabeth Withers and Raheem I thought I would give it a try.....I was sourly disappointed.

Its not that she can't sing. She really can. But she isn't ready for a major release or even an indie release for that matter. She lacks voice control and she sounds painfully young. Like New Edition "Telephone Man" young. Well I jest a little. My point is that her voice lacks maturity and seems ill suited to her subject matter because it. I think associating her with neosoul or even soul music in general does a great disservice to the genre(s). She needs a voice coach and lots of classic training. By classical I am suggesting that she get with bonafide soul or jazz singer and train her voice. She will make the muster in a few years if she does so. But if she expects to win most of us over with her present style, she will be really disappointed in the outcome and she will hurt others that are looking for their big break in the process. (People are not forgiving of poor neosoul - eg. Anthony David. lol)

Comment: This is one of the most perfect albums that I have heard. I went to see her in concert with Joe last year. Her performance was one in which I can't describe. She's wonderful.
