Summary: An Angel With a Telecaster
Comment: Kate Voegele can sing! She can carry a tune with the soulful audacity of a veteran rocker. Her performances exhibit a depth and maturity in execution that surpasses that which is not typically heard in pop music today. She shows a range of influences and a thoughtfulness that leaves me wondering with anticipation what the future may hold in store. Her skills as a songsmith are developed far beyond what one would expect for someone this early in their career. This is really good guitar-driven rock and roll with a little bit of sweet attitude. She has what I call sass. I invite my peers (middled-aged classic rock listeners) to give Kate a chance.

Summary: Pleasantly surprised
Comment: I must admit that I bought this CD for the song from Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 movie, "It's Only Life". I have to say though, that not only did I love that song, but the others as well (surprise!). Kate has a very mature and powerful voice and the songs reflect more than what I expected from a younger singer- variety, heart, and most importantly, talent (unlike some other popular singers). My favorite song, in addition to "It's Only Life" would have to be "Kindly Unspoken". It is very simple with only the piano behind her, yet for me is very beautiful, and a shining example of her vocal talents. I would recommend this album, and i don't think you will be disappointed. I expect that we will see a lot more from Kate in the future.

Summary: young promising artist katie vogele
Comment: deserves an accurate hearing , she has a pretty voice and selects interesting melodic lines and writes herself most of the lyrics too , she sings well in my opinion and the disc has a low market price which makes it worthy even if you prefer harder forms of rock

Summary: I Love this CD!!!!!
Comment: I can honestly say I love every song on this CD. Her lyrics hit straight to the heart and she sings with such expression. She reminds me of the singer/songwriters of the 70's like Carly Simon and Carole King. I am excited to watch her career.

Summary: A bump in the road.
Comment: Don't Look Away by Kate Voegele isn't a strong debut as it should've been. Kate's vocals seem unique and soulful but if you listen closely, her voice is whiny and raspy but not in a good way. She's young and has some potential but her vocals are her downfall, can't say she's a great songwriter as well, her guitar playing is good but the lyrics just rattle on and go nowhere. Kate has appeared on One Tree Hill so that's why she has gotten so much exposure, but if it wasn't for that I don't think people would be interested in her beyond that. This album is pretty much forgettable I hate to say.

Editorial Reviews:

The musical landscape is teeming with singer/songwriters, many of them quite capable, but only a handful have something truly distinctive to offer. Kate Voegele belongs in the latter category. Don't Look Away, Voegele's first full-length album (MySpace Records), is a revelation, as the 20-year-old writer/singer, belying her tender years, delivers songs of depth and insight with a powerfully seductive voice that maintains a fierce presence amid dynamic rock grooves and infectious pop hooks. Produced by the veteran Marshall Altman (Matt Nathanson, Mark Broussard), Don't Look Away is a bravura effort from an old soul with a youthful spirit; think of her album as a female parallel to John Mayer's Room for Squares--at once a zeitgeist-capturing landmark and the launchpad for a viable career.

The tracks range from the rootsy acoustic ballad "Wish You Were," with its mandolin and accordion filigree, and the sparse, piano-based "Kindly Unspoken" to the widescreen heartbreak anthem "Only Fooling Myself" and the ironically titled "It's Only Life," a soaring expression of female empowerment, which Voegele describes as "a motivational, uplifting song about dealing with situations rather than trying to hide from them." "One Way or Another" is an edgy rocker about romantic victimization, while the punchy "Chicago," she says, "is a metaphorical representation of any kind of escape, about just needing to get away. The line at the end of the chorus is, `I'll be on the seven o'clock to Chicago,' so it refers to a specific city, but it's universally applicable."

While the concerns Voegele touches on in her songs are contemporary, her sensibility is deeply rooted. Growing up surrounded by the music of seminal singer/songwriters like Carole King, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell and Eric Clapton, thanks to her musician father, Voegele absorbed everything she heard as if by osmosis, and began writing her own songs at 15. "It's my personal goal to continue the standard set by those before me," she says of her timeless approach. "No matter how a song develops, my main goal is to reach people, because there were so many musicians who spoke to me, and still do, to help me to deal with situations. It's so easy nowadays with all the technology for people to fake it. For me, it's just so important that the true musical talent and passion for the songs be there."

Poised, beautiful, armed with unforgettable songs and a voice to match, Kate Voegele is on the brink of something big!
