Customer Rating: Summary: Amazing accomplishment! Comment: I've been a fan of hers for many years, and this album is definitely one of her best. The more I listen, the better it sounds. Eliane only has a slight problem with one tune - "A Sleepin' Bee" - but that is only because the phrasing of this song is difficult for her in English. I also wish I could understand some of the English lyrics she sings to "Here's Something for You", but that doesn't mar her heartfelt tribute to Bill Evans, also one of my favorite musicians. Her version of "Waltz for Debby" made me misty-eyed. Kudos, Eliane, I love your work!
Customer Rating: Summary: ELIANE IS SUPER Comment: WHAT A GREAT CD. ELIANE IS FABULOUS AS ALWAYS. BILL EVANS WAS THE MOST INFLUENTIAL JAZZ PIANIST SINCE THE 50S. IT IS FASCINATING THAT HIS LAST GREAT BASSIST, MARK JOHNSON, IS ELAINE'S HUSBAND. HE IS A ROCK AND PERFECT FOR THIS GIG. I HAVE ALL OF HER WORK AND ADMIRE HER MORE AND MORE. I LOVE HER SINGING ALSO...VERY SENSUOUS, VERY UNIQUE. I JUST HOPE SHE AND MARK WILL KEEP PRODUCING MORE OF THIS GREAT MUSIC!
Customer Rating: Summary: Eliane Elias Something for you Comment: fantastic CD. This album is more jazz piano based unlike Dreamer on which she used her sensational voice, but still worth adding to you cd collection for the sheer talent and professionalism of her performance. Its a CD that one never tires of no matter how many times you listen to it.
Customer Rating: Summary: very good Comment: Eliane is a great pianist, She does a great job of covering Bill Evans. I enjoyed her rendition of You & the Night & the Music, where she does the theme in three different keys. This is a must have CD for Jazz heads.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Arrangements and Musicianship - Vocals need work Comment: I have followed Elaine Elias for years and been amazed at (and inspired with)her technical proficiency with the piano and her interpretations of the jazz classics. Her interpretations of Bill Evans accompanied by husband Mark Johnson, who was in the late Bill Evans Trio and highly thought of by Evans, make this a must have album for fans of both Elias and Evans. I think Elias shows some promise as a vocalist, but her voice is not strong. In addition, her vocals seem to suffer as it appears that her sense of the emotional meaning and pronunciation of the English wording is lacking when compared to other vocalist (Tierney Sutton, Tony Bennett to name just two). This may be because English is her second language after Portuguese. Contrast this with "Minha" on this same album which is not sung in Enlish and you can see that she is very capable of conveying deep emotional feeling and touching the listener. I hope she gets more coaching on the vocal side as this combined with her undeniable technical virtuosity on the piano will make her a jazz superstar.
