Customer Rating: Summary: Lindo, Lindo, Lindo Comment: La Reina delivers another outstanding performance. The ballads are a nice departure from her usual "merengue" roots and are a wonderful display of her range and talent. Granted who wants to listen to the same song in different styles, (bachata, salsa, ballad) but when it's La Tanon, it's all good. Her duet with Milly is awesome and leaves you wanting more - well, we will just have to wait for a "merengue/salsa" filled cd release.
Customer Rating: Summary: Olga Performs Masterfully! Comment: The great Puerto Rican singer Olga Tanon returns again but this time with...an album of covers? I wasn't sure what to make of this or where this came from. This album seems at odds with everything Olga has ever produced in the past. The style, the feel, the lyrics...none of this sounds like the Olga I know and love. Word is Univision cornered Olga into making this, and that is a shame in a way. It just doesn't belong somehow.
I've already heard every song on this album and I've seen the video for Hoy Quiero Confesar. I really didn't like any of it at first. But after listening to it several times, I realize that Olga has done some powerful vocal work here. There is a grace and elegance to her performance that is surprising. I haven't heard Olga sing like this before. The songs aren't bad, they just don't seem to fit the artist singing them. The lyrics and the sound are all wrong compared to what we've seen from Olga in the past. Even so, I couldn't resist falling in love with every song on this CD. She is a strong artist and individual, and she performs materfully here under the circumstances. It's grown on me. I love it.
Hats off to la Tanon!
Customer Rating: Summary: Sad Comment: THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IN OVER TEN YEARS THAT I HAVE BOUGHT OLGA'S MUSIC THAT I HAD TO TURN OFF THE RADIO BECAUSE THAT'S HOW BAD THIS C.D. IS I MEAN EVERYTIME I BUY ONE OF HER C.D. I HAVE TO LISTEN TO IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN THATS HOW GOOD IT IS MY WIFE EVEN ASKED ME WHATS WRONG WITH THE C.D. I MEAN GOD SOMEONE DO SOMETHING WITH THIS NEW LABLE RECORD THAT WOULD MAKE SUCH A WONDERFUL WOMAN AND WONDERFUL VOICE CREATE SUCH A BAD C.D. AFTER ALL THESE YEARS OLGA DON'T START LETTING PEOPLE TELL YOU WHAT KIND OF MUSIC YOU NEED TO MAKE AND ONE SONG 4 GENRES JUST TAKING UP SPACE WASTE OF MY MONEY FOR THE FIRST TIME EVERY
Customer Rating: Summary: A Good Album But.... Comment: First of all, I would like to add to what the first comment stated. Olga was indeed "influenced" actually more like "forced" by Univision records to make this album. She said it herself in an interview. She also said that she has never been a fan of "cover" albums. And I agree with the fact that ever since she started with Univision records, her albums haven't quite been the same. Not bad, but just not as consistently fantastic like her others albums with Sony Discos and especially with WEA Latina. She's not the only one suffering from Univision's awful way of handling their artists. La India and Gloria Trevi are other ones. In India's case, her album with Univision records was a complete disaster... the music was awful and her image on the album (Bride of Frankenstein anyone???)... Anyhow, back to this album. Olga's voice sounds AWESOME. I noticed that she hit certain high notes that I've never heard her hit before. The merengues on the this album are actually quite GOOD. Manuel Tejada and Ceferino Caban did a fantastic job doing the merengue musical arrangements. The reason why I didn't give this album 5 stars is because of the song selections. 4 versions of "Hoy Quiero Confesarme"???? This is too much. 3 may have been passable. But I don't see the point to doing a merengue version and then adding a cumbia merengue version.... AWFUL!! They could have added more different songs instead. The ideal way of having done this album would have been to do a DOUBLE ALBUM. One disc would have been all BALLADS with about 10 to 11 songs... and the second disc would have been the merengue/tropical (more merengue though!!!) versions of the same 10 or 11 songs!!! Oh well!!! Hats off to Olga, but SHAME ON YOU Univision records!!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: I LOVE OLGA... But don't like this album (Please sing new songs!) Comment: I've been an Olga fan for the last 12 years. I've bought every album she ever put out and loved them to death. When it comes to this one, I can't get the hang of it. Why did she have to go re-do other peoples songs. Go get your own songs! I really thing Univision must have pushed her to put this crap out. I really would love for her to go back to WEA Latina. Her albums with WEA were always good. I'll still be her biggest fan ever, but I'm really mad with this album. Olga puts an amazing voice to all the songs but not satisfied with the musical arrangements. Olga please make an album with new songs next time. Even better if its merengue & bachata. BTW... Why do we need to see 4 versions of the same songs. Cut it out! We know you can sing all these styles but we don't want to hear one song all over again (taking space on CD that could have different songs added to it).
