Customer Rating: Summary: Life Changing C.D. Comment: This is a life changing c.d. by Sara Groves. Sara goes into uncharted territory, with her lyrics about injustice, pain, strength and conviction. This c.d. is a wake up call to evangelical Christians to truly love as Jesus did---to act on behalf of the helpless and those without a voice. It was a wake up call for me. I have given this c.d. to several friends who have been deeply moved by it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not what I expected... Comment: I love Sara Groves. Her lyrics and music usually really speak to me but this album just didn't click with me. I just seemed very different, not as lyrical as her others. Maybe it is just me but I would recommend one of her others like, "The Other Side of Something" over this one.
Customer Rating: Summary: Another good album Comment: As soon as I heard WMBI playing the excellent new song "When the Saints" yesterday morning I knew instantly there must be a new Sara Groves album, and lo here it is.
I've bought all of Sara Groves' albums, after hearing her live at Willow Creek Community Church a couple of years ago. She sings well with a distinctive voice in a vocal range I enjoy, and also with real honesty and depth.
In addition to "When the Saints", I also gave an extra star in iTunes to "Say a Prayer", "Love Is Still A Worthy Cause" and "I Saw What I Saw", and found all the other songs also easily listenable.
For your first Sara Groves album, also consider her "Conversations." Its songs "The Word", "He's Always been Faithful" and "Tent in the Center of Town" are among my very favorites, though I also have favorites on her "The Other Side of Something" and "Past the Wishing" albums.
Recommended.
Customer Rating: Summary: Favorite CD of 2007 Comment: I eagerly anticipated Sara's new CD, as I've never been disappointed before. It still blew me away. I love "Song for My Sons," "When the Saints," "Honesty," "It Might be Hope," and "The Long Defeat." Her lyrics and music always bowl me over, but this CD really hit me where I am in my walk right now. She so clearly expresses herself and I appreciate her honesty. I have introduced Sara to several people and they all say that she's their favorite artist now. This CD does not disappoint.
Customer Rating: Summary: A little too CCM for me Comment: I'm surprised to see so many 5 star reviews. While I thought this CD was good, I thought her other CD's as a whole were a little better, particularly "All Right Here" and "The Other Side of Something". There are some definite gems on this album. My favorites are Song for My Sons & Love Is Still A Worthy Cause. My disatisfaction isn't anything I can really put my finger on, there is just a pervasive "ccm" sound that I don't prefer.
Don't get me wrong, the CD is still good and by no means do I think she "missed the mark". This CD is a reflection of where she is, it's just not where I am and the topics didn't speak to me like previous albums.
