Customer Rating: Summary: No CD Comment: I received a CD case that had been shrink-wrapped in plastic, but no CD. Very annoying.
Customer Rating: Summary: Electric and fun. Comment: This mixture of old and new themes in an upbeat salsa Peruvian style all its own.
Customer Rating: Summary: hot latin sounds! Comment: This is a great set of songs perfect for listening to while cooking in the kitchen: spatula in one hand, margarita in the other and the urge to dance while you sautee.
Customer Rating: Summary: Can't Get These Chicha's Out of my Head! Comment: Most "world" music leaves me kind of cold, but this stuff is great. It's nice and tight, kind of weird and extremely danceable/hummable. I'm going around all day singing, "Nunca... pero nunca..." I wouldn't really call the style "psychedelic", but it does have that twangy guitar and funky organ thing. I play this in my car and my 8 month old is LOVING IT.
Customer Rating: Summary: Dancerific! Fantastica! Yee Haw! Comment: Really fun rhythmically for dancing (or reasonable facsimile thereof), plus sonically interesting, and some funny lyrics to chant and giggle. Surf guitar with big reverb, polyrhythmic with multiple percussion, the environment which produced this music was amazingly fertile. eastern Peruvian wild west amazon mining town jump up music. Very fun!

In the early 70 s a new sound grew out of the booming cities of the Peruvian Amazon. Chicha, as it came to be known, modeled itself on Colombian Cumbia music but replaced the accordion with surf guitars, and incorporated the psychedelic sounds of Farfisa organs and Moog synthesizers as well as Cuban Guajira, and the distinctive pentatonic scales of Andean melodies. Unlike other modern hybrids, such as Ska or Brazillian Tropicalia, the music never crossed international borders. This is the first ever Chicha compilation to be released outside of Peru.
