Customer Rating: Summary: Scorchin' Blues Comment: Been a long time comin' for JDW III on CD... a buddy of mine played me the vinyl several times & it smokes! This dual release is brilliant & sounds good. These songs show a hard rockin' Johnny--listen to the stinging leads...from the blues to arena rock--it doesn't get much tighter or better! Play it loud...
Customer Rating: Summary: good rock , blues and more Comment: You can always depend on a Johnny Winter album to deliver good rockin' blues. This combo deal on two albums, Saints & Sinners and John Dawson Winter III does not disappoint, it if filled with Johnny's brand of texas blues, along with a few different sounding tracks, one a bit funk/jazzy, and one surprising country flavored tune. Although these records seem a bit more commercial/radio friendly than other JW albums, I enjoy the variety here. A great CD for your car cd player.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good Stuff Comment: This represents Johnnies most commercial efforts of
his long musical career, but at the same time fun
to listen to and some good material.
As far as being digitally remastered, no, not a very
good job, I found the sound to be average at best.
Peace
Customer Rating: Summary: FINALLY - John Dawson Winter III Comment: I bought this to get the complete John Dawson Winter III recording. If you are looking at this re-release and you liked JDW III 35 years ago when it was originally released, buy it now, you will still enjoy it, I did.
For those not sure what the hoopla is about, this 2fer contains the last two studio albums Johnny cut marking the end of his rock n roll superstar era studio recordings. Johnny would go on to release two additional live rock superstar recordings "Captured Live" and "Together" with brother Edgar and gang (now also available again). The point is John Dawson Winter III has not been available for decades.
This recording rocks, many of the songs are performed live on "Captured Live". This is a rock and roll CD about rock and roll with some blues stuff. Every song is excellent, "Self-Destructive Blues" and "Pick Up On My Mojo" are tunes that I had forgot about over the past 35 years that truly stand out.
The sound quality is good and this release of Saints and Sinners does sound better then the stand alone CD (I own it too).
If you liked Johnny in his Rock n Roll heyday, buy this CD, you will not be sorry.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent value 2fer Comment: This is another well put together twofer from BGO who seem to specialise in such things.
I've owned the mid 70's "rock" albums from Johnny Winter on vinyl since, well, the mid 70's and I was never able to locate a CD version of JDW111 until now. Together with the BGO twofer Still Alive and Well/Captured Live you will have this period in the career of one of the great guitar slingers of the 70's and beyond well and truly covered.
Soon after this period JW returned to his blues on numerous albums. This early 70's period however has long been a favourite of mine. These two albums contain a mixture of original tunes by Winter and some of the usual suspects including Rick Derringer, Dan Hartman and brother Edgar etc, and covers of various other artists material including Jager/Richards, and even John Lennon and Van Morrison
The booklet included with this disc is informative but hardly gushing in praise, which makes for an interesting read.
All in all I would say this disc is a recommended means of acquiring two strong albums in a good value package.

2007 digitally remastered two-fer from the Blues guitarist featuring a double dose of classic Winter on one shiny CD. Both albums were released during the height of his commercial success in 1974 and feature blistering Blues and Classic Rock in it's finest and most furious form. BGO.
