Customer Rating: Summary: Recycling Plus. Comment: Yet another configuration of Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen!
The first disc, with fine sound quality, is most of the older SLEAZY ROADSIDE STORIES CD, this time with 3 less titles than the original, but with 5 "bonus tracks" which do not have quite the same sound quality. (The music of this live performance is from the same show that yielded the classic LIVE FROM THE ARMADILLO WORLD HEADQUARTERS disc, 1973). The second disc in the set has some quite awful sound quality, recorded live in Port Chester, NY. If you're willing to adjust your ears and plow through the entire performance (again, mostly the same songs you've already heard), what you find is a band at their peak. VERY tight playing, excellent soloing, and most of the songs are taken a good deal faster than usual, making it all the more amazing. Is it worth purchasing? If you don't have SLEAZY ROADSIDE STORIES, yes. If you do, then it's a matter of whether or not you can deal with inferior sound quality. If not, skip it. If, on the other hand, you're a collector or you really just want to hear the music, then it's worth getting at a single disc price.

Commander Cody and his lost Planet Airmen were one of the great Roots music groups of the late 1960s and 1970s. They laid the groundwork for what would come to be known as the Americana genre. The Airmen did it all, Boogie-Woogie, Country & Western, Blues, Swing, and Classic Rock and Roll. The group moved to San Francisco in the summer of 1969 and was almost immediately established as a force to be reckoned with. They regularly played The Fillmore and the Family Dog as well as many other venues and outdoor shows. Their debut album, Lost in the Ozone (featuring cover art by Frayne), was brimming over with great songs and one Hot Rod Lincoln , hit number 9 in the pop charts the following year.
The first CD in this set is a live show from the famous Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, Texas from 1973. The second CD in this set is a previously unreleased concert recorded at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York, in May 1975 and is one of the last great recordings by the classic line-up of Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen. Both shows have been digitally remastered and are housed in deluxe digipak format with booklet featuring extensive liner notation and previously unpublished photos.
