Summary: Best Rice Yet
Comment: This is certainly one of my favorite CDs of all time. The only even slightly low points are "Sneakin' into Heaven" and "Pardon My Dust."

"Tell Me the Story Again" is rapturous. The title track is invigorating. All the tracks are inventive and have memorable melodies.

Summary: Wow
Comment: Wow- This is my first dive into Chris Rice and what a experience. His songs are deeply impacting me. I can just put it in and never have to skip a song. His music makes you think of great pictures with moving lyrics and awesome guitar/piano playing. I just can't say enough about this album- I think I will buy amusing next and see where that one leads me!

Summary: I almost hate to admit it...
Comment: but I like this cd even less than Amusing. This new sound of Mr Rice's just doesn't seem to fit him. I like a few of the songs here, but the lyrics and music overall are not as inspiring as on his previous efforts. I'd actually rather listen to Amusing, as some of the songs there are more reflective of the Chris Rice I know and love. And I highly recommend any of his projects prior to Amusing. There are two songs missing from Amazon's track list for this cd...#12 Kids Again and #13 Baby Take Your Bow. I guess my favorite tracks are Pardon My Dust (Love it, love it, love it) and What a Heart is Beating For.

Summary: Amusing Part 2 - And That's Not a Good Thing
Comment: When Chris Rice released his last CD, I was disappointed. But I figured every artist had off projects. Unfortunately, that seems to be his new direction.

Stylistically, Chris has moved from a folk/pop to a jazzy pop feel. While it's not my preference, I could get used to it if the lyrics were still great. Unfortunately, those have fallen off as well.

I don't mind the occasional love song, but I don't normally buy discs that are fairly full of them. While not as prevalent as they were on Amusing, they seem to make up the majority of the tracks again here. I find this rather funny coming from a single guy. His few overtly Christian songs are rather weak. "Tell Me the Story Again" is a meandering piano ballad that doesn't catch my ear at all. "Sneakin' into Heaven" is fun to listen to and has a good message hidden in the bridge, but is just plain weird.

Not this isn't to say that the entire thing is bad. "Here Come Those Eyes," yes, one of the love songs, is a very fun description of love. Chris writes one of his best happy go lucky songs with the opener "So Much for My Sad Song." And "Pardon My Dust" is a great reminder that everyone is a work in progress.

But can someone please tell me why we needed "Lemonade" again? It's exactly the same as it was on Amusing. There are twelve tracks without it. So why throw it on here?

This CD is only slightly better than Amusing. Since I didn't like that one, I'm really not a fan of this one, either. The songs I like are out numbered by the ones that don't work for me. I'll probably preview his next release instead of blindly buying it.

Summary: One of Chris Rice's Better Albums
Comment: The opening track, "So Much For My Sad Song", is typical Chris Rice happy-go-lucky music, starting off the album in a familiar way. The next one, the title track, is one of the strongest songs on the album despite the minute of filler at the end.

"Love Is Gonna Break Through" is another thoughtful piano ballad from Mr. Rice. My personal favorite from the album is "You Don't Have To Yell," a great lyrical song about not having to be the loudest in order to be meaningful and heard. The next two songs are decent, though "Lemonade" already appeared on his previous album.

"Let The Words Escape" is a standout ballad and definitely a memorable song. Another notable song is the classic Chris Rice hymn-like "Tell Me The Story Again." The one knock on this album (and Christian music artists in general) is the lack of musical evolution and originality. Rice's sound has not changed at all from his early works, which will at least please those who want something familiar. This album, however, is still above average and one of Chris' better albums.
