Summary: This is Going Somewhere
Comment: I'd heard the buzz about Grace's live shows and had a chance to catch her live at Mountain Jam II . That show caught my attention and I bought the bands "Nothing but Water" disc and wasn't overly impressed with that collection , and was dissapointed with the way it played Vs. the great energy this band showed Live. When this disc was released I bought it in hopes that Grace & band were evolving and they sure are. A bit more of a rock vibe than their first effort and it defintley plays more towards their live show. I recently paid a little more attention to the lyrics during a long car drive and and the last cut on the disc "Big White Gate" really caught my ear. I find it amazing that a woman in her early 20's can put to paper such great lyrics. I'm looking foward to seeing Grace again on stage at Mountain Jam IV at Hunter Mountain in June , and seeing this young musican evole over the next few years. ( Here are the lyrics to "Big White Gate" ) My body's acing from laying in this bed
I went singing in the rain and the cold got to my head
I don't know who's paying i just know what the doctor said
84 years of a sinning life and in the morning i'll be dead

I had three daughters
A new man for every one
The only man that i ever loved
Left me with my only son
I was a no good mother
I was a no good wife
There's only one thing that i did right in this godforsaken life

Saint peter won't you open up the big white gate
Cause i heard about forgiveness and i hope it ain't too late
I ain't no holy roller but you go tell your king
That all the folks up in heaven might like to hear me sing

I sang to my children
Before they strayed so far
I sang for my lovers
Or a nickel in a tip jar
I never knew jesus
I never read the good book
But on my day of dying
I'm giving life a second look

Saint peter won't you open up the big white gate
Cause i heard about forgiveness and i hope it ain't too late
I ain't no holy roller but you go tell your king
That all the folks up in heaven might like to hear me sing

It's coming on time now
My body's getting cold
I've got no will i've got no prayer
My story's all been told
I'm ready for the land of fire
But i'd love to see the land of gold
So nurse bring me my guitar
One more song before i go

Saint peter won't you open up the big white gate
Cause i heard about forgiveness and i hope it ain't too late
I ain't no holy roller but you go tell your king
That all the folks up in heaven might like to hear me sing

Summary: Great album from a true rock band
Comment: This is one album any music lover must have. The sound and feel stems form a time when music meant something. This album is a perfect blend between all out rocking tunes with ripping guitar solos and a solid more mellow singer/songwriter feel. It truly showcases this young bands talent and gives the listener a taste of their jaw dropping, energetic live concerts.

Summary: I have been listening to this for almost 6 months.....
Comment: I have been listening to this fantastic album since the day it came out! Having been a "music head" since I was 13 years old (now 51), I can't remember an album that I have kept in my main rotation as long as this one (maybe Dark Side Of The Moon!). In 6 months it has more plays than any others in my iTunes list, which is 4 years old!
I have owned the earlier Grace Potter releases, and enjoyed them. But, This Is Somewhere is leaps and bounds above them. It may be the more "rock" themed songs or the better production, whatever it is it works!
If you get a chance to see these guys live, DO NOT pass it up! I will guarantee you will not be sorry! They are great live! Search for them on YouTube....

Summary: The more I listen to this album, the more I like it
Comment: This is the second Grace Potter CD I've bought, and I'm a big fan of both of them. This girl can flat out sing, which makes it a fun album to listen to. She's going to be huge, so go see her while she's still playing small venues. She is as good, probably better, live than, she sounds on the CD.

Summary: Sexy and Rocks!
Comment: Had not heard of GP&N until I saw them in concert as the opening band for Govt Mule at the Tab in Atlanta - was blown away!! Picked up the CD at the concert and have played it to death. The CD is awesome but the live performance was even better!

Editorial Reviews:

What distinguishes Vermont's Grace Potter from the recent run of the female singer-songwriter mill is her affinity for anthems and a powerhouse band that can deliver the goods. Though quieter fare such as "You May See Me" and "Lose Some Time" finds one foot in folk music, her heart is plainly with hard-charging rockers such as the opening "Ah Mary," the melodic propulsion of "Ain't No Time," and the supercharged kick of "Mastermind." Ballads such as "Apologies" and "Falling or Flying" show her soulful side, while the sexually assertive road song "Stop the Bus" provides further indication of her range. The closing "Big White Gate" sounds like a gospel cousin of John Prine's "Angel from Montgomery." --Don McLeese
