Customer Rating: Summary: Jay Soto review by Joe H Mission Viejo CA Comment: I first heard "jammin" by Jay Soto on KSBR Jazz radio and immediatley called in to ask who it was. Then heard two other tracks and was sold on this great player. I bought the album right away and am enjoying every track. His tone, phrasing, overall feel is refreshing and clean. To give somewhat of a comparison ( never fair I know ), on some tracks he reminds me of Jeff Golub, on others just a hint of my hero - Larry Carlton. I would very much like to see this cat live !

Customer Rating: Summary: Please, More Sir! Comment: The other reviews have said it well and covered why, but just to add an incredibly enthusiastic five star review. Soto is, simply, special, and if you're a true C-Jazz guitar afficianado, then you just must have this CD in your collection, and I doubt you'll be able to take it out of the player, certainly not for long. SUPERB!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Must Have CD Comment: If you are a fan of Jazz Guitar, Jay Soto is the future, and actually the present also. He combines the sounds of Peter White, George Benson, Norman Brown, etc. Great CD, a must have!
Customer Rating: Summary: Stay Awhile, Play a While Longer!!! This Album Rocks!!! Comment: No sophomore jinx for Phoenix-area jazz phenom Jay Soto. While his debut album, Long Time Coming, continues to impress, this latest release makes clear that Jay has finally "hit the big time" on the smooth jazz scene. As the debut single, "Slammin'" continues to climb the charts (it has just broken the Top 10 as of this writing), more and more people will come to recognize the profound talents of this writer/producer/guitar virtuoso (the artist wrote or co-wrote 10 of the album's 12 songs, while one is a cover of the Stevie Wonder standard, "Send One Your Love"). While I admit a decided preference for Soto's more up-tempo grooves, and that "Slammin'" is without question my favorite song on this album, "Stay Awhile" covers the broad territory of "smooth" and "contemporary" jazz with style, substance and a sure professionalism. Even at this early stage in his career, it is no exaggeration to say that Jay Soto is a worthy heir to the sophistication and "smooth" of George Benson. The parishioners at Glendale, Arizona's St. Helen's Catholic Church are twice blessed with this remarkable talent as their musical director, and the jazz world has much to be thankful for with this latest offering from a real "comer." Great job, Jay!!! Keep the good vibe coming!!!
