Customer Rating: Summary: Not what fans are looking for. Comment: Linkin Park made some mistakes with this album.
I'm a stong believer in bands evolving and changing over time, but going from a punk/rock/rap band to a ballad band in one CD is too much to put on your fans.
Besides their drastic change in tone, they also introduced vulgar language (which has never stopped me from buying a CD before, but I always enjoyed that I could pop their CD in without hearing the profanity), and, *gasp* politics. Seriously. Bands like LP should be forced to put warning labels on their CDs if they plan on spouting mindless rederick and shallow political views. This is ENTERTAINMENT not REAL LIFE.
I was SO disapointed when I finished this one. I've even been hoping it will grow on me, putting it in the CD player once or twice a month. Nope. I won't even wear the T-Shirt I got with my $30 pre-order.
I'll be reading some reviews before blindly buying their next album. The only reason I gave it two stars is Bleed it Out. It spoke of early Likin Park, even though they did use profanity.
Overall a poor effort. Two-thumbs down.
Customer Rating: Summary: Finally, something worthy of the band that released Metora! Comment: I have been listening to this CD for weeks now in my car, I just love it. It is one of the few CD's where I don't even need to skip tracks I just hit shuffle and go. This album, in my eyes anyway, really redeemed Linkin Park after LPJZ which was just awful (spare me the hate replies if you liked it, this is my opinion and a way to judge the album before you buy it). This album is more melodic than Hybrid Theory, Reanimation, and LPJZ and is, as I said, a brilliant successor to Metora. The songs are well written, well played, and well conceived and I am yet to meet a Metora lover who didn't like this album as well. If you enjoy style of bands like Greenday, Blue October, My Chemical Romance, or AFI you will probably enjoy Minuets to Midnight. The above in mind, it is almost impossible to accurately rate music and artwork so listen to it before ya buy it. Theres my two cents, take it or leave it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Give it some time... Comment: Now, I've seen a lot of reviews listed discussing how this album doesn't reflect the rough, anger-fueled music of the Linkin Park of the past, and after my first listen this is the same feeling I had.
But then I gave it another shot. And another. I gave it time to soak into my mind. I asked myself, "Why did Linkin Park decide to take this lighter sound?". Then I realized that they decided to take the approach of letting the lyrics speak for themselves instead of forcing the sound into the listener. Give this album some time, look past what it is missing from the older Linkin Park albums and see what it has gained. I have done this and I believe that "Minutes to Midnight" is as good as "Meteora".
Customer Rating: Summary: No, it's not the Bible Comment: It's just a good album, with a bit less rapping, a bit more lyrical depth, and a bit more subtlety than the first two.
I can see why rabid Hybrid Theory fans would be annoyed, but I also think they're missing out.
Customer Rating: Summary: Don't give them your money!!!!!!!!!!!! Comment: They'll just do a remake next year! Then put out another live album!
Thier first album rocked! but you don't redo you're first album for your second! Then make a live album after only three CDs! Plus one of those was the remake of thier first!!!!!!!!!!!!Money hungry b*stards!!!!!!!!!!!! I refuse to pay for thier music becuase of this!

Minutes to Midnight stands to defend Linkin Park's status as the hardest-rockin' softies in mainstream music. Like its predecessors Hybrid Theory (2000) and Meteroa (2003), Minutes to Midnight flexes plenty of decibel-heavy muscle ("Given Up," "Bleed It Out," "No More Sorrow") and made-to-order, melodic radio fare ("Leave Out All the Rest," "Shadow of the Day," "In Pieces"). But for all its volume, Linkin Park likes to paint its heart openly on its sleeve with suspicious sonic drama, as in the palpably saccharine "Valentine's Day." Fortunately, co-producer Rick Rubin brings all these elements to pinnacle effect with the surprise "Hands Held High." On past efforts, the combination of breezy keyboard, arpeggiated guitar, choral vocals, and a military snare-beat would yield another slab of smarm, here MC Mike Shinoda drops the two best verses of his career, blending vocal styles with singer Chester Bennington for a moving piece that's as welcome a repertorial addition as Linkin Park is ever likely to muster. --Jason Kirk
