Customer Rating: Summary: I watch AI, but I don't nomally purchase AI contestant music... Comment: I watch American Idol, but I don't purchase the music of AI contestants because it's generally corporate produced, emotionless garbage. Even as good as Daughty is, you can barely tell him apart from any number of other Nickleback like bands. In contrast, Bucky's album is something special. I don't even really like country, with the exception of Nickle Creek. Anyhow, his album doesn't have that corporate, facist, pig feel to it. It's seems personal and genuine. The songs tell great stories.
Customer Rating: Summary: Bucky Breath of Fresh Air!!! Comment: He's a little bit country, a little bit of nostalgia, and a lot cute.
This young man who did not win American Idol (but who is way better than many of this year's top 10) is a definite country music all star. His natural talent shines through on his first CD, Bucky. These are the kinds of songs that are as good for your heart as comfort food is for your soul.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Customer Rating: Summary: Surprisingly Talented and Catchy Songs Comment: I just keep listening to this albums songs. The tunes and lyrics are very addictive. They are upbeat and professional. Bucky has put out a great country western album. I love his the sound of his voice -- unique and above many other artist in the country business.
His songs are a joy to listen to. Worth the buy. I think if more people gave it a chance, his album, or at least some songs, would be listed on top. People would think it a 4 or 5 star rating as well.
Customer Rating: Summary: I'm Not A Big Country Fan, But..... Comment: But....I'm really impressed.
I consider myself a fan of music, not of any specific genre, just a music fan. Eben though I lean towards a hard-edged-rock style, i.e. Breaking Benjamin, Seether, and of course "Classic" Rock. Still, I love some R&B, classical, and some country, especially George Strait, Hank Jr. etc...
I picked Bucky's CD at a local Target while I was just in a, "I need something new to listen to" mood. I recognized Bucky from American Idol, but didn't think much, but then there was nothing else that I saw that was interesting, so I bought Bucky's CD.
I still can't believe that the voice I hear on this album is the guy from American Idol and coming for the guy on the front sleeve. I've got to give him credit for letting his voice bloom into the raspy Travis Tritt with a splash of Kenny Rogers voice, but still very original. I love this album more, the more I listen to it, and coming for an older music fan, I have a LOT of history to compare Bucky's album to.
I usually have a hard time giving anything 5 stars, but there isn't a bad song within and it's great to see such a young person get a break in a tough industry. One of the best parts of being a country musician is that their fans are always loyal. If Bucky keeps his head screwed on straight, he'll be around for a long time to come. Which wouldn't be a bad thing at all.
If you don't believe me, give the album a listen to. If you like country music, you'll enjoy this first offering.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fun, entertaining Comment: Bucky kicks off the album with the rockin' track "American Friday Night" which sets the tone for most of the album. There are strong tracks here and there are those trying to be too country, products of the "new nashville".Among such songs are "I'll Walk"; although Bucky gives a very good vocal performance on this cut, the song tried too hard to be a tear-jerker...the same can be said for "Back When We Were Gods"; this song felt like it was trying too hard to be brooks and dunn. Moving to the real good cuts, "a different world" is the strongest, that's why it's in the charts. "Hometown" is a soulful ballad, staight out of the backwoods. The album ends the way it starts - Rockin' with "The Bible and The Belt"./ Overall, it's a fun and entertaining piece of work. If you're a country fan, go out and get a copy.

Editorial Reviews:

The fifth-season American Idol finalist has a Nashville record deal, and his talents have traction. Bucky Covington's gravel-rough, expressive voice is sufficiently flexible to handle a wide spectrum of material. His flair for a light touch comes through on the Mark Nesler/Marty Dodson tune "I'm Good" and the pleasant "A Different World." Regrettably, he often has a tough row to hoe, since in the case of material and arrangements, producer Mark Miller (of Sawyer Brown fame) has simply thrown him onto Music Row's insidious studio assembly line. Covington gamely pours his heart into a sheaf of predictable songs, from the sentimental bathos of "I'll Walk" to "The Bible and the Belt" and "Back When We Were Gods," the types of generic heartland tunes sung so often by so many in the past decade that they no longer feel fresh or compelling. Musically, Miller wraps Covington in a sterile, studio version of Travis Tritt-style southern rock that robs him of any sort of distinctive style. American Idol is a difficult road, even for the Carrie Underwoods who ultimately come out on top. One who got as close as Covington did, with his potential, deserves better. --Rich Kienzle
