Summary: Good Stuff!
Comment: This album is very good and satisfying from start to finish with the exception of the "do over" of Stevie Wonder's song. On my stereo, the recording quality is very good with a huge sound stage presentation. His guitar playing is very enjoyable. The musical arrangements are also well done. This is one of the better CD's I have heard in quite a while from start to finish. Aside from the one song mentioned above, that I don't really care for, this is good stuff! Enjoy!

Summary: 4-1/2 stars -- Stay with Norman
Comment: First off, I can't believe that this album, Stay With Me, is garnering so many one and two-star reviews. Now, I have been a Norman Brown fan for years (but don't get it twisted; if the album was bad, I'd still say so), and while this isn't his best album, it's pretty darn close.
There are plenty of smooth selections on here, especially the album's opener, "Let's Take a Ride", which will make you want to do just that. Other notables include "A Quiet Place", "Pop's Cool Groove" and "Soul Dance". There's also some nice vocalizing to be found, like songstress Nikkole on "You Keep Lifting Me Higher" and Norman himself on "Every Little Thing", "I Need You" (whose lyrical similes seem a little monotonous on paper, but they still work) and the Brian McKnight-penned title track.
Speaking of the title track, the only reason I knocked off half a star is because the bridge to that song is a little off-key. But the rest of the album is good enough for you to not even care. While After the Storm and Just Chillin' remain as Norman's best albums, Stay With Me is still an excellent album that'll make you want to stay right by him.

Summary: One of Norman's Best
Comment: For all those who don't like the cd, you must not have heard his past cds. All of his cd's are good, but this one is like a mixture of all the rest. He offers more variety and flavor to each song. He is my favorite guitarist in the jazz genre. Hear it for yourself before you form an opionion. He has done it again!!!

Summary: A Pleading Norman Brown whimpers, "Stay with Me"
Comment: I've been a big fan of Norman Brown for many years and I'm very disappointed with this latest offering. I'm used to a sexy, seductive message coming through his state of the art guitar work and convincing vocals. In "Stay With Me" he sounds, as the title suggests, like the whiny lover who gets dumped and pleads with his ex to stay, even though he knows he doesn't have much to offer. Or maybe he's fulfilling an unfavorable record contract and is telling his fans to hang around for his next CD.
Either way it's painful to listen to. It sounds like he's finally gotten around to recording some tunes he wrote in Junior High School. "I'm so in love with you" for instance. That is not only the title, those are the only lyrics in the song. After his Grammy for "Just Chillin'", Norman established himself as the foremost jazz guitarist of his generation. This album is an embarrassment, but as he suggests, stay with him; the next one is bound to be an improvement. From the depths of this trite drivel, there's nowhere to go but up.

Summary: Auto-pilot guitar playing
Comment: I mean this cat sure can play, but his nifty fingers almost make me doze off... Slumber at the tip of his fingers. This is like tuning down the excitement of George Bensons' most sleepy recordings.
I don't mind smooth jazz, but I hope the reviewers who say Mr. Brown had better albums are right...
