Customer Rating: Summary: Just what baby needs Comment: I bought one cd for my 1 year old granddaughter and one for her 65 year old grandmother (me).
I liked the traditional songs more than the ones the singer had written but several reminded me of my Daddy singing to me. Nice!
Customer Rating: Summary: "Dream" is truly dreamy Comment: Every album that Mae has released has been a gem but this one has an even brighter shine. Her talents as a singer and interpreter have deepened, and the production quality is brilliant. If you are looking for a baby gift, look no further. But you don't have to have young children to fall in love with this album.
There are several covers, including Paul Simon's "St. Judy's Comet," "Midnight Lullaby" by Tom Waits, "You Can Close Your Eyes" by James Taylor, and Bob Dylan's "Forever Young" that are given new life on this album. They beautifully display the best of what a cover song should be: a reimagining and reinvigoration of a classic. And there are more traditional lullabies like "Godspeed" and "Dream a Dream" that glow with the warmth and beauty of Mae's voice.
The musicians assembled for this project are equally stellar and, together with the sensitive production, they create a deep and rich sound.
When I first heard this album and was searching for a way to describe it, the phrase "conjugations of beauty" came to mind. I don't know if I made this phrase up myself or if I heard it before, but it definitely applies to these songs.
I encourage you to listen to the song samples and then treat yourself to the whole album. These songs are soothing and inspiring at the same time.
