Customer Rating: Summary: Quintessential Maynard Comment: There's really nothing I can add, as another waiting 20 years to replace my worn out LPs, the best album of Maynard's that I'm aware of...
If I were deserted on an island and could have only one CD, this would be it. It is my all-time favorite album of any genre.
My trumpet mentor says that Lin Biviano got fired after this recording, so apparently he didn't behave himself... The end of "Two for Otis" is a good example!

Customer Rating: Summary: Hooray. It's about time!!!!! Comment: Notice how everyone rates this 5 stars. 'nuff said. It is and you should get it. I have the original LPs and have been waiting for years to finally get this on CDs. Order yours now.
Customer Rating: Summary: Maynard Ferguson Live at Jimmy's Comment: This is a classic in jazz and just as important as Ellington's Live at Newport, John Coltrane's Giant Steps and Miles Davis's Kind of Blue. It is a must for any trumpet player. The ease and grace that Maynard uses on the song Teonova is a master class in the use of and control of air(only a trumpet player will know what I mean). Maynard sounds like an operatic tenor and the power and musical-ness is just amazing. This CD is absolute and will pin your ears back every time you listen to it. The only recording that comes close to this level is...... well there isn't any! Also remember, this is a live set. No hocus pocus or fancy editing to hide behind. This CD will come at you like a fully loaded Peterbuilt on an interstate freeway. If you doubt the power of Maynard's ability just check out the cutting session between Clifford Brown, Clark Terry and Maynard found on the CD "Jam Session"........nuff said.

Customer Rating: Summary: Best live jazz recording ever Comment: MF freaks have been waiting for this to come out on CD for years. All I can say it that it's about time. The setting, the music & MF at his best. Even the Fender electric piano distorts at the what seems to be just the right time. This was one tight band, all the soloists are fantastic.
If you are going to try MF for the first time, this is the one to get.
Customer Rating: Summary: The classic Maynard album Comment: As this album influenced my jazz tastes through junior high and high school, and into college, I spent countless hours listening to these tunes. Through 30-plus years, I've worn out three of the original albums and at least six tapes before this CD was released. To sit with headphones on and listen to the live atmosphere from Jimmy's takes me to the days of live concerts where high school and collegiate jazzers would sit in awe of the Master's stratospheric work, and the interaction of the musicians. All of the charts are outstanding, including the classic McArthur Park. Nice and Juicy is a fun chart, the Fox Hunt just kicks and Got the Spirit is the perfect closing for a great set.
Perhaps the best words for this album were uttered by Maynard himself as the band played "Blue Birdland" at the conclusion of the album: "I hope we get one hell of an album out of this."
You surely did, Mr. Ferguson, you surely did.
