Customer Rating: Summary: Norah shines, videos not so much Comment: The music is what you get on the unenhanced CD, vintage Norah with several of her best tracks yet. My favorite is 'The Sun Doesn't Like You' - very dark, threatening, totally non-specific, with this really neat strong music (vocal and instrumental).
I hoped for one or two different songs on the DVD (you get that on her first DVD), but that doesn't happen. I'm not a great fan of videos. These are far better than most (visual quality, concept, execution), but I'd have been happier with more of the rehearsal footage,or small-house concert ...
And I'm picky.
Customer Rating: Summary: Moon beams and lullabies..... Comment: Whether folk, country, jazz, pop, or whatever music style she pleases, I will listen. She has the curiosity and imagination to travel to these areas and beyond. This is the voyage of a musician that is gifted with a conscience possesion of her own naivete. Her minimalist piano and guitar virtuosity is the canvas for the delivery of her exceptionally pure art. Telling glimpses of her life, thought, and truth seasoned with dreamy fairy tales of moonbeams and lullabies. She does all of this and more, with a voice that is the sexual-audible equivalent only comparable to Emmy Lou Harris, Dolly Parton, or Diana Krall. I hope she still throws in the classical tune now and then, and doesn't feel pressured into creating all her own new material.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not Too Late Comment: The product is what I expected. It arrived on time and in the condition advertised.
Customer Rating: Summary: Norah Jones is superb Comment: I bought this CD / DVD right before attending her show here in Boston. It is a great CD. I haven't watched he DVD yet.
Customer Rating: Summary: Disappointing Trend Comment: I loved Norah's first album, her second was good, but not as good, the third had me wondering and this last album is a real disappointment. I think Norah believes she has to have dark and somber themes in order to be considered a serious artist, but her strength lies in her soothing, comforting, sensuous, "wrap me in a warm blanket" voice, which is largely absent from this work.

Although the music of Norah Jones continues to blend pop, soul, folk, and country with a seasoning of jazz, her third album for Blue Note is the first where she's written (or collaborated on) all the material. Beneath the smooth surface lie darker strains on the album-opening "Wish I Could" (about a boyfriend lost to war), intimations of mortality in "The Sun Doesn't Like You," and the post-election horrors of "My Dear Country." The last seems to channel the inspiration of Brecht/Weill, while the equally bleak "Sinkin' Soon" is set to a jaunty Dixieland rag. Throughout, Jones's vocal intimacy and melodic warmth remain as disarmingly understated as ever. The soulful "Thinking of You," the countryish "Wake Me Up," and the syncopated "Be My Somebody" reflect the captivating style of her previous work. Although too much in the same midtempo mode becomes a dreamy lull, cut by cut, Jones's voice is irresistible. --Don McLeese
