Summary: Robert's POV
Comment: The concert experience from Robert Smith's point of view. Great audio, so-so video. Too many camera shots of Robert's face and torso. Would prefer to see the actual playing of the instruments and more of the crowd's perspective. You really cannot appreciate the lighting effects from this perspective. Additionally, this concert is performed without keyboards, which sonically, leaves the songs less impressive.

Summary: I've Seen Better Cure Bootlegs
Comment: The Cure have only two live DVD's - both recorded post 2000; 20 years after they began and at least 5 years since their prime. "Trilogy" - a three hour set which includes Pornography, Disintregration, and Bloodflowers in their entireties; and this DVD - "The Cure: Festival 2005".
Released in late 2006, it was shot during the band's headlining shows at 9 European music festivals in the summer of 2005. The video features a variety of angles "captured by a mix of fans, crew and 'on-the-night-big-screen cameras'. It is noted by the return of former guitarist Porl Thompson. Festival has 30 songs taken from most of their albums so it provides a much wider range of material than Trilogy. It is also heavily waited towards the material that Porl Thompson was involved in - from 'The Top' to 'Wish'.

Although it is an excellent collection of songs, there isn't much variety in terms of the visual experience - a byproduct of festival touring. I don't mind the different camera techniques but I don't think the sound mix is very good for this day and age.
It seems a little strange that The Cure's best live video - the full concert "Live in Orange" has not made it to DVD, yet an average live DVD that is no better than some Cure bootlegs gets an official release.

Summary: Great selection of songs and nicely filmed
Comment: Being a long time fan and having watched the Cure in Orange a couple dozen of times (I know that was almost 20 years ago,) this live is a great way to go through the band history in what they did best. The way they used the cameras makes the live not boring at all. Great job!

Comment: I really like The Cure, saw them in concert many times since the early 80's, I even have other DVD's by them, but the quality on this one is not impressive. I really wish I didn't spend the money. I don't like how they shot the concert, it looks like a novice did it. The sound quality is ok, but not compariable to their other concert DVD's. I would pass on this one and buy Trilogy, that one is Awesome!!

Summary: if you like The Cure, do yourself a favour and get this DVD!!!
Comment: I just wish I were in one of those concerts because they really played their music, I mean, not only their hits and singles but also the great b-side songs. There is just one little detail I would complain about, and is the fact that I missed the keyboards. Other than that this DVD is a compilation you need to have and as they say: "Enjoy it in the dark"

One of modern rock's most enduring acts the Cure proves it's still able to put on a great live show in THE CURE FESTIVAL 2005. Former guitarist Porl Thompson returned to The Cure's fold in 2005 and he takes a cross-continental tour with the three other band members (Robert Smith Simon Gallup and Jason Cooper). The band played nine different festivals from Spain to Turkey and this title combines the best footage from the shows.
