Summary: Love U2!
Comment: I bought this CD when it first became available. I had to get this one for my sister because I knew she would love it too. I am waiting for the U2 3D CD/DVD to be available. I absolutely love them. This is a good greatest hits type of CD, but if they wanted to they could put a couple more together and I would buy them too!

Summary: Good compilation
Comment: This will probably be one of many more U2 Greatest Hits collections to be released in the future and Bono & Company will just keep that cash rolling in.

Summary: A good but somewhat unnecessary release
Comment: 'U218 Singles' is a good compilation from U2. It's got every major hit single, and two killer new tracks ('The Saints Are Coming,' a duet with legendary punk band Green Day and 'Window In The Skies') are all featured on this set.

But, despite all of that, this is a very unnecessary release. I'm happy to see it, and it's worth owning for the two new songs, but why not include rare early singles, like 'Out Of Control,' 'I Will Follow,' '11 O' Clock Tick Tock,' 'Fire,' or latter day singles like 'If God Will Send His Angels' or 'Please'?

The bottom line is that if you're going to make a U2 singles collection, you should go ahead and make it a two CD set. It's impossible to fit every U2 single on one disc.

A more fitting title would be 'The Best of U2's Singles,' but to call it simply 'U218 Singles' is misleading.

But despite all of that, this is still highly recommended for any U2 fan. If you're a casual fan, buy it for all of the hit songs featured here, and if you're a die-hard U2 fan like I am, buy it for the two new songs.

Recommended. ENJOY!!!

Summary: U2 cashing in.
Comment: U2 have tended to release the same greatest or best of album in the past, this is probably their third or maybe fourth I'm not sure, why do they have to be so greedy?. If you don't have any of their albums then I guess this would be a good start just to have a sample of some of their excellent songs even though there are a few missing, this compilation would be more suitable for the casual fans who just want to listen to the hits like New years day, I still haven't found what I'm looking for, Pride in the name of love, Beautiful day ect. The set list is O.K. I guess since its not in chronological order and its better that way but if you're a huge fan like myself then this would be pointless since it only has two new songs The saints are coming with Green Day which I thought was blah average, the next song Window in the sky was decent but you can download these songs of the net.

Summary: Great one disk compilation
Comment: This contains the most popular radio hits of U2. For the casual listener like myself this CD is all I need.

What makes a good compilation in my opinion is a collection where every song is enjoyable and you don't have to hit the skip button. This is one of those collections that I bring with me on every road trip.

This contains all the hits from the definitive album "The Joshua Tree" and focuses heavy on the more popular albums. People like me who stopped listening after 1991 and started back up again in 2000 will be glad to see that there are no songs on this collection in between those years.

The big fans of U2 will stay away from this collection and hopefully for them this will help finance a project to get all the albums remastered which is LONG overdue.

Editorial Reviews:

Whittling down the back catalog of one of the most popular and respected bands of the last quarter-century to a single-disc collection is bound to inspire argument and dissent from the fans and faithful over what is included--and all that gets left behind--and U2's 26-year career is as celebrated and beloved as any band of their generation. U218 Singles doesn't try to please everyone, wisely sticking to the acknowledged high points (and there are many) between 1983's War and 2004's How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. Nitpickers may quibble that the collection leans too heavily on the band's most popular albums and skips the (admirable if less anthemic) techno-pop tangents of Zooropa and Pop and the earnest energy of the Boy/October years, but the musical majesty accumulated here testifies to the undeniable power and emotion U2 can muster in a four-minute pop song. Two new Rick Rubin-produced tracks don't break new ground for the band, but both would fit snugly somewhere in the U2 canon--"Window in the Skies" is pure late-period arena rock with a typically towering falsetto chorus, while Green Day helps inject some October-era urgency into "The Saints Are Coming". The sum of these 18 tracks is a first-rate primer, perfect for that 10-year-old niece or nephew who thinks U2's big break was that iPod commercial. --Ben Heege
