Customer Rating: Summary: marie antounette Comment: this CD is the soundtrack from the recent film starring Kirsten Dunst. I enjoyed the film so much and was enthralled by the musical soundtrack, featuring songs which reflected the different phases of the life of the unfortunate Queen, from the wonderfully vibrant Intro Versailles, to the I want Candy (when MA and her friends were living the high life) to Fools Rush In (her affair with Fersen) right through to the tragic ending of the film where MA and Louis XIV are driven away from Versailles by the angry mob to Paris, to imprisonment and their eventual executions.
A very evocative and moving musical experience.
Customer Rating: Summary: Marie Antoinette Soundtrack Comment: This cd was one of the best I've purchased all year! The collection of music chosen for the soundtrack works well in that all of the songs are different enough so that you don't get too much of the same thing, but are similar enough in that they are all modern rock/pop songs with an edge. Sorry this review wasn't the best as this is my first time reviewing anything for amazon, but I LOVED it and can't recommend it enough.
Customer Rating: Summary: Sofia Coppola Rocks! Comment: If you loved the movie and 80's music I'm sure you'll love these CDs.
I'm a house maker/a costume designer and I enjoy the Disc 2 (soothing mode) in the morning while I straight up the house and the Disc 1 (dancing mode) while I cook. Both CDs suit well when I'm working too.I Purchased this soundtrack because I wanted to listen to the beautiful piano musics ( yes, they are in the disc 2!!) . As a costume designer, I love the pictures on the booklet. Although my husband, a blues lover can't stand the 80's songs, they are good for paties as well.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great soundtrack! Comment: This is an absolutely great soundtrack! There is fun, get up and dance music, and more low-key, ambient sounds too - a great mix of indie and classical inspired contemporary music. Plus, since it comes with 2 CDs it is a good value compared to a lot of other albums out there.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Comment: I purchased this album right after seeing the movie. There is only one word for this compilation of music - FANTASTIC! It was so ingeneous of Sophia Coppola to incorporate music from the 80's into a historical movie! It gave a whole new flavor to the typical period piece. I am a huge fan of the music from the 1980's - especially Adam and the Ants!
I recommend this album highly for everyone. The music is wonderful and the film is visually beautiful. Mon dieu! What a treat!

Marie Antoinette may be a period film, but don't expect minuets: Sofia Coppola's candy-colored portrait of the doomed queen moves to a punk beat. Whatever you think of how that approach works in the movie itself, it makes for a bracing two-CD soundtrack that's like a mix tape put together by a DJ particularly attuned to the tastes of 2006, not 1786. A dominant chunk of the selection is made up of vintage postpunk tracks, from Siouxsie and the Banshees' "Hong Kong Garden" to Gang of Four's "Natural's Not in It," from New Order's "Ceremony" to the Cure's "All Cats Are Grey." The giddily fun Bow Wow Wow offers a counterpoint to all that seriousness with three songs (two of them, including the iconic "I Want Candy," remixed by My Bloody Valentine's maestro Kevin Shields). Newer contributions come from acts as diverse as retromongers the Strokes and avant-electronicists Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, while Dustin O'Halloran (half of the L.A. duo Devics) contributes three nice, Debussy-style piano solos. The most conventional choices of the lot are a pair of harpsichord pieces by Couperin and Scarlatti, as well as Vivaldi's "Concerto in G," a chestnut that's got to be in every single film set in the 18th century. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
