Customer Rating: Summary: What a Blessing !!!!! Comment: This CD is such a blessing. The voices are phenominal. But the messages are powerful. Really gives you something to think about. The first song is especially meaningful to me ... I have walked the broken road and God has truly blessed me despite it, because of it. God is so good and this CD is truly an expression of the rewards He has waiting for us !!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Inspiring Comment: This album is so good, my brothers, sister and parents want one! Every song is thoughtful and inspiring.
Customer Rating: Summary: Some great tracks, some just okay Comment: The nature of this CD is variety, so most of us will probably like some songs but not others. I wasn't crazy about the title track--can't really say anything bad about it, but not my style. As for the rest:
Gentle Healer: I love this song. I'm a huge Michael Card fan and this remake is a beautiful tribute to the original.
Glory: AWESOME, probably my favorite song on the CD. I can't listen to this song without raising my hands to the heavens. Nichole Nordeman has outdone herself.
I Will Sing of My Redeemer: I like it, but promptly forget about it when it's over.
Follow Jesus: Same as above. I can't really hear the lyrics half the time because of the way it was produced. Fun to listen to but I don't get much out of it.
Mary Sweet Mary: I expected to love this song because I'm a Plum fan, and I love Christmas music. But I'm not crazy about putting all the focus on Mary. It was just okay, in my opinion.
All My Tears and Ain't No Grave: I LOVE these songs! I want them played at my funeral, and I'll be looking down from above to see everybody dance!
Be Thou Near to Me: Very nice.
Faithful One: Beautiful. Speaks to me of faithfulness that endures not only for a lifetime, but throughout the ages.
Sweet Jesus: Beautiful and intimate worship.
Softly and Tenderly: Only these two could perform this song in a way that's so intensely earnest without being manipulative. I've heard (and sung) this song a million times but never heard it like this--great job.
Customer Rating: Summary: Wonderful !!!! Comment: This was my first introduction to Selah, and I am so-o-o happy I purchased this CD! Very poignant lyrics and beautiful music. My favorites are Gentle Healer and Glory, but really the whole CD is just wonderful. You won't be disappointed.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent - contemporary twist to old favorites - making them new all over again! Comment: I will probably always be one to recommend a Selah album, because I grew up in a church visited yearly by Nicol and Todd's parents, Congo missionaries Jim and Nancy Smith and used to hear the whole family sing way back when (in fact, I think my parents have an old record of hymns the family put out years ago!). That being said, this album is amazing! I've been listening to it over and over the last couple of weeks, hearing new layers every time. I love beautifully written lyrics - the mix of these classics with the voices of the Selah members and their duet partners is matchless.
At first listen, "Bless the Broken Road" stood out as my favorite, but then I listened more closely to "All My Tears," which I'd surprisingly never heard before. Now it stands out as my favorite on the album, esp. with Kim Hill's folksy sound, and one of my favorite songs ever.
Completely a stand-out album - so much depth and breadth.
Oh - and for those that didn't know, Nicol stepped out to raise her family and support her husband at Moody Bible Institute's grad school. She's worked some on solo stuff, too.
