Customer Rating: Summary: I caught myself singing along.... Comment: We initially checked out this cd from our local library. I questioned the title of some of the songs, didn't think they would be a good influence. After I realized I knew the lyrics to at least 3 of the songs and my girls behaviors were not negatively impacted - I bought the cd and we continue to love it. The CD has catchy lyrics and melodies, a little bit like showtunes I think.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great CD for kids of all ages Comment: A must have for any Backyardigans fan. We listen to this CD everyday in the car. We won't let our son listen to the radio so we have to have a bunch of children friendly CDs loaded in the car at all times. My son absolutely loves this CD. It's probably one of the few children CDs I can listen to without losing my mind.
Customer Rating: Summary: great music Comment: We purchased this for my Daughter's themes Backyardigans party. She loved the music and asks to listen to it at breakfast every morning. My daughter loves the Backyardigans in general but this is a way for her to get to listen to the music (her favorite part) without always watching TV. Music is not annoying for adults as so many of the choices are now adays.
Customer Rating: Summary: Better than a movie Comment: Our 2-year-old son absolutely LOVES this album. He would rather listen to the cd than watch a movie in the car. The songs are catchy and quick and are fun to listen to for the whole family. The production quality of both the music composition as well as the overall sound is excellent. This is definitely a "must-have" for any cd collection!
Customer Rating: Summary: Fun and funky music for kids of all ages Comment: I'll never forget the day my husband and I were in the car with my daughter and The Drumming Song came on. I loved it and felt like it was my dirty little secret. Rather sheepishly, I confessed to him that I loved it and he looked at me and said, "I do too!" That's when I knew we had hit the jackpot. I love the Backyardigans in general and my daughter is a huge fan. The music is fun and covers a wide variety of styles but what is most surprising of all is how very clever the lyrics are. My husband and I frequently laugh out loud at some of them. I just love seeing my daughter bopping the the beat in the backseat and singing along with her favorite characters. This CD truly does kids' music proud and proves that if it is done well it's also a treat for adults.

First things first: to appreciate The Backyardigans soundtrack, it is absolutely crucial that you have a 2-, 3-, or 4-year-old within footsie-playing distance. Like the soundtracks to virtually every other show on Nick Jr.'s much-adored lineup, this is a disc formulated with scant regard for grown-up sensibilities. But rightly so. After all, preschoolers can't be blamed for having a predilection for the preschoolerish, and who wants to hear fussy, good-for-the-whole-family songs--the musical equivalent of peanut butter and jelly on whole wheat, crusts attached--when Pablo the penguin, Tyrone the moose, and Tasha the hippo are on hand? To its credit, cartoony voices aside, this animated crew kicks out the jams: Uniqua and the gang get down on the disco-fueled "Shake Your Body" and then go gently hip-hopping through the grass to their own "Rad Moves," and minute-long forays into pop, rock, folk, big band, celtic, calypso, klezmer, and even dixieland follow. You may not place as much value on being a princess as the Pepto Bismol-colored Uniqua (see "I Love Being a Princess"), but count on any TV-watching, tiara-wielding kid in your household to know exactly where she's coming from. Here's a disc solid enough to keep on spinning until gigantic singing playthings somehow lose their appeal. --Tammy La Gorce
