Summary: More Fantastic, Compelling Post-Modernism From Yorke
Comment: For those who can't really ever get enough Radiohead (like me), this is an excellent and sublime addition to Thom Yorke's ever-growing body of work. More subdued and less grandiose than much of Radiohead's work, this one-man release also seems more intimate and personal. Yorke invents a new angle to the proceedings more than once, and experiments to a much greater extent with warm vocal melodies, synth textures, techno-like drum programming, and an overall electronica aesthetic in some ways similiar to Radiohead's "Kid A". There are some subtle guitar stylings and embellishments (the fantastic and hypnotic "Black Swan", for example) and great atmospherics imbued with Yorke's signature surrealist style. As much as I love all of the members of his "main gig", and value their contributions, this really shows how central and influential Thom Yorke is to Radiohead as an entity. Highly recommended!

Summary: Great album
Comment: This is a such a great CD. The EP, Splitting Feathers is hot as well. Really great melodies, trans elements and alternative roots. Better than any Radiohead album in the last decade.

Summary: Radiohead Fans Enjoy
Comment: Thom York has a beautiful voice and a wonderful talent for making music that is not able to be defined. Is it Techno? Kind of, but also mellow. I don't normally think of Techno as mellow. But, Thom York makes it that way. Radiohead is fantastic and Thom York proves that he can do it Solo too.

Editorial Reviews:

Some writers and fans have taken to calling this album Kid B, the (obvious) implication that it's the companion piece to Radiohead's masterpiece of electronic rock. And while The Eraser does compare favorably to that work, it's no longer ahead of its time, just simply of its time. We can't all be visionaries all the time, however, and it's understandable that Yorke wants to play with his computer more than he gets to with his rock and roll band. Looped bubbly bloops, sleight drones, and curious bleeps complement Yorke's distinctive vocals throughout. The album at times sounds like demo versions, as if they were an update of the way Pete Townshend used to do solo versions of all his songs for the Who. It's tough not to expect the rest of the band to come in and "complete" a particular song. But once you get used to the fact that this isn't going to happen, the album reveals itself as a delightful, occasionally brave work that's as playful as it is melancholic. --Mike McGonigal
