Summary: masterpiece of an album
Comment: Eyes Open starts and never looks back. The music is like a journey, it is both eloquent and beautiful. Yes it is just as good as the final straw and might be better on many levels. It has a tighter more produced sound than final straw which may turn off some older fans but for me it was a breath of fresh air. I loved final straw and I love this one just as much. I was one of those who found snow patrol by hearing the song "run" on the radio and picking up final straw. I didn't hesitate to pick up Eyes Open when it was released and have loved it since. Snow Patrol often gets compared to Coldplay for no reason other than that they play similar music. Both play emotional music with good lyrics. Go out and pick up Eyes Open if you like any of the singles you won't be dissapointed. It is good from start to finish.

Comment: I was so excited two years ago when I stumbled upon Snow Patrol. Like a lot of fans, I discovered them through Grey's Anatomy. I'm just finally deciding to do a review of their CD, not because I have a lot of time on my hands, but because I want to share my rave compliments and excitement on this talented band with the rest of the world.

I'm not sure where to really place this CD as far as genres, it's sort of alternative rock, my favorite kind as of late. Something new and different. With the appealing voice of the lead singer, unique and catchy lyrics and great back ground instrumentals and vocals, Snow Patrol is truly a hidden gem! I enjoyed this CD so much that I went out and bought Final Straw and I like that one nearly as much as this. Some of my favorite songs here are: You're All I Have, Hands Open, Chasing Cars, It's Beginning to get to Me, Make this go on Forever, Set the Fire to the third Bar, Open Your Eyes and Headlights on Dark Roads.

I highly recommend this CD if you are into alternative type rock or music. Or Indie. Whatever you like, you might want to give this a try. I was happily surprised with their unique sound and style. I wouldn't mind seeing more bands like Snow Patrol around, the radio could use some infusion of life into it!

Comment: The latest in bands from the other side of the Atlantic to mine introspection and melancholy into gold, Snow Patrol go for the jugular on their fourth album. The sound is epic and emotional, from the playful name-checking of Sufjan Stevens on "Hands Open" to the gentle lullaby of "You Could Be Happy," Snow Patrol announce that they are more than eager to shoot for the big leagues. While they seem like a slightly less dour Coldplay or a more melodic Travis, lead singer Gary Lightbody has now proven he can be a capable frontman and stand apart from the pack.

That is evident from the compelling first single, "Chasing Cars." Echoing atmospherics easily capture a listener's attention and the hook is killer. It's the best thing on "Eyes Open." What holds the band back is the over-reliance on ballads. Granted, heartbreak has been Snow Patrol's stock in trade since their debut, but a few more kickers like "Headlights On A Dark Road" would have made this a more intriguing album. The ballad heavy second half can almost be forgiven by Martha Wainwright, who contributes a haunting duet with "Set Fire To the Third Bar."

Overall, a strong modern rock album by a band that has a strong identity if not an entirely separate sound. Having a title song that all but screams U2 doesn't make your band sounds any less derivative than all the other sub-Coldplays out there. Lightbody and company need to find something that offsets Snow Patrol from the glut of "Grey's Anatomy"/TV Show mood-setter bands to really race across - as they put it on the final song on "Eyes Open," across "The Finish Line."
