Customer Rating: Summary: Talented Man Comment: If you like different music with a nice groove move you will like Tarkan. He has a modern hip hop beat blended with a traditional middle eastern beats. You can belly dance, hip hop dance or just enjoy the different mood music his cd has to offer. I love his voice...so buy it!
Customer Rating: Summary: Disappointing! Comment: He sounds like Justin Timberlake in this CD rather than his personal style. I agree with much that has been written here and I tend to think that this CD was catered for US charts. I'm not impressed with it and I also think his voice sounds much better in his native tongue of Turkish. This english CD sounds like it's going to be his only one. It's not bad but it's NOT Tarkan. If you're expecting a CD like Karma or Dudu this is nothing like them.
Customer Rating: Summary: Tarkan is cooler than Tarzan! Comment: Oh man, I fell in love with Tarkan in 3 hours. Buy this Cd. I'm not even Turkish and I'm in love with his songs! I'd say his Turkish albums are better... His turkish songs are more natural. His "Come Closer" album sounds like it's been waaaay aimed to succeed in the American music industry. Nonetheeless, this album is a MUST for Tarkan fans. :D
Customer Rating: Summary: As good in English as in Turkish Comment: I am starting to study Turkish and in exploring ways to hear it in a natural and unstructured (i.e. non-textbook) setting, I looked into Turkish pop and found I really like Tarkan's music. Because I was after Turkish, and because I have found that I usually do not like English works from performers whose music I love in their own language, I almost did not try this CD. After listening, though, I am very impressed.
The songs are just as fun, interesting, and beautiful as his Turkish ones. Very catchy and danceable. Unless you knew that English was not Tarkan's native language and very new to him, you would never guess to hear him sing in it. "Mine", "Come Closer", "Shikidim" (which is my Turkish favorite now done in English), "I'm Gonna Make U Feel Good", and "Touch" are my favorites.
The range is wide in style, instrumental sections, etc., but the theme of love is always there. True Tarkan all the way.
I have seen some tepid online articles about Tarkan's latest tour and the launch of this first English album and admit that added to my hesitation to try this album, but I would urge you not to hesitate if you are a Tarkan fan. It's very good. If you are new to his music, it will introduce you without the language barrier and you won't regret it.
Try it for yourself and then form an opinion. I'm glad I did and I applaud his courage in his ongoing efforts to grow and challenge himself with new markets and a new language.
As an aside, if you like Darren Hayes and Savage Garden, you will find that Tarkan's music reminds you of Darren's very much as does his overall philosophy of love, acceptance, and personal growth.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not a lot of flava Comment: I agree with Ay from New Jersey. I, too, am a huge fan of Tarkan, and was looking forward to this album. For me it turned out to be a bit of a bust. Here and there we get glimpses of his Turkish genius, but for the most part, "Come Closer" sounds like every other R&B Lite album out there. I was expecting a much more creative blend of East and West. It is unfortunate that the Pussycat Dolls' "Buttons" has more impact than much of the material on this album. It almost seems as if Tarkan were writing music to cater to "American" tastes, rather than writing from the heart. If this is the case, then Tarkan, be true to yourself. Your fans love your creativity.
