Customer Rating: Summary: Contemporary Cafe Comment: How fun is this? Contemporary groups doing cafe music in the "apres la guerre" style. Loved this album.
I'm a French-American gal and speak fluent French, but you don't have to to enjoy this CD.
Put it on, have a cafe, and simply pretend you are in Paris.
Customer Rating: Summary: An interesting sampling Comment: I liked the sampling of modern French pop numbers, especially "Je Reste Au Lit" ("I'm Staying in Bed"), which was playing in my ear while I worked. The numbers aren't ones that appear over and over in other compilations.
Customer Rating: Summary: Like a mini-vacation! Comment: I adored this CD from beginning to end. Some tracks are better than others but none are worth skipping over. A great CD for a bad day, best accompanied by a good book and a glass of wine.
Customer Rating: Summary: French Connection Comment: Love this CD! Really lifts my mood and makes me feel in touch with the world. Excellent as a background when entertaining and also really enjoyable when having a glass of wine and relaxing on your own. Nice cross-section of tracks too.
Customer Rating: Summary: Now you can always have Paris! Comment: This is an outstanding compilation of contemporary French artists who have captured that certain "je ne sais quoi" that characterizes the French "chanson" style of entertainment. The music may be "Nouvelle Scène" but it has that timeless evocative quality from the days of Edith Piaf. Putumayo has produced a real classic for lovers of French music.
My only criticism might be that it's too bad that Putumayo does not include the lyrics to the songs!
