Customer Rating: Summary: Very solid Comment: If you are a fan of Yann Tiersen then you will like this record. I don't think it is as strong as Le Phare or Rue des Cascades but it is very solid. There are a couple songs with electric guitar, bass, and drums which are good. But personally, I like when he sticks with the traditional instruments. Elizabeth Frazer sings on 2 songs and I think that's pretty exciting.
Customer Rating: Summary: Music of simplicity Comment: i fell in love with les retrouvailles with the first time i've heard La Veilee.Real touching melody, complexity in feelings simplicity at the music side as a Tiersen classic. I got the limited edition with the DVD box.In the DVD we can see how Tiersen is creating his music, it is all about the whole recording cycle of the album. And for the audiophiles and real Tiersen fans, DVD gives the chance to see the partitions for guitar, violin, xylophone and toy piano like how he is combining the separete recordings. And for finally who loves details, he is listening to Cocteau Twins album where we can see for few seconds. Well i guess i have rambled a bit, to sum up this album is Tiersen's one of the greatest works and i can^'t finish without saying a word about Elizabeth Fraser's amazing and unique voice.
Customer Rating: Summary: And the library keeps growing. Comment: So I finally got this album for Christmas! It's a great expansion to my Yann library. As of right now track 4 ("La Veillee") and track 14 ("7:PM") are my favorites.
As for comparison to Yann's other albums, I don't find this one to be so full of melancholy like prior albums. It's not as purely French as some of his other music has been, either. I've also never been a big fan of lyrics with the music; I prefer it just by itself as I think it expresses all that it needs to without any words. I think there are 5 tracks on this album with lyrics.
I will add also that unlike some others, I was not disappointed in the "Goodbye Lenin!" soundtrack. I thought the sound went perfect with the film. It did take Yann a bit out of character, but "I Saw Daddy Today" and "Summer 78" will remain some of my very favorite Yann tracks.
Customer Rating: Summary: Yann Tiersen, Les Retrovailles Comment: This one grows on you. I really enjoy it. The music puts you into a mood that is quite pleasant.
Customer Rating: Summary: Spectacular. Comment: The moment I discovered Yann Tiersen to be the composer of the Amelie soundtrack I rushed out and bought more of his albums. He is amazing and talented to say the least. I highly recommend this album. It is absolutely beautiful.

Editorial Reviews:

With his whimsical, melancholy music, Yann Tiersen has become a sought-after composer, not only for his soundtrack work, but in his own right. Borrowing from French folk music, chanson, musette waltz and street music, as well as rock, avant-garde, and classical and minimalist influences, Tiersen's deceptively simple style has been likened to Chopin, Erik Satie, Philip Glass, and Michael Nyman. THis is his 2005 album featuring guest vocalists Liz Frazier, Jane Birkin, Stuart Stapple & Dominique A. Virgin.
