Comment: I'm going to buy this album, but I don't like the fact that it's overloaded with the singers - Telepop was looking for another "Breathe" hit - maybe they'll find it, but I'd rather hear the music by itself. Customer Rating: Summary: A smooth mix of styles and beats Comment: I've done a lot of trolling through music samples and buying of albums in my life, and it's rare that I come across one that really shakes things up and breaks a mold or two. Angel Milk (specifically, Genetic World isn't as good) features a small number of vocalists and MC/DJ's that really know what they're doing. From the very first track, "Don't Look Back," you get hit with this amazing voice right out of the box. It's wispy and throaty and soft and harsh all at the same time. She really sets the tone for the rest of the disc! Think of Missy Elliot twisted around Goldfrapp... really, it's crazy awesome. The very best example of this, I think, is the song "Love's Almighty" Man, what a great voice! And to polish it up even further, the music in the background is both sublimely understated and supportive of the vocals. Then you have the all together unexpected tracks like "Last Train to Forever" that features some really great beat-speak. It brushes the territory of Tricky's early stuff he did. You know, Back in the 5th Element era? Very trip-hop, but nicely more smooth. And finally, you have tracks like "Close" that feature a much more silky voice that makes me think a little of early trance vocalists. Stuff that the Platypus collection really went for at the turn of the century. Really, this album is varied, but all together strung together with similar themes and moods. Each track is a winner in my opinion, but you have to be able to really relax and mellow out to listen to it. I say buy buy BUY!!! It's good stuff! Customer Rating: Summary: Mostly boring Comment: "Anyway" and "Into Everything" are the only tracks worth your time, and they are brilliant gems unto themselves. Unfortunately that makes this album the musical equivalent of casting pearls before swine. The other tracks are boring, uninspired cliches that just aren't interesting on any level. Thankfully Amazon allows single track MP3 purchases. Do yourself a favor and don't buy the entire album. It's just not worth it. Customer Rating: Summary: nice follow up... Comment: In this their sophomore album, telepopmusik was successful in describing musically what their album title, "angel milk" means. The melodies are soothing, rich texture to the beats and background sounds, and soft vocals. A nice feature of this album are the different vocalists, including the famous voice of their first album. After three listens I was convinced that this album brought something new to the table yet held true to their sound. Customer Rating: Summary: open your ears into everything Comment: this beautiful beautiful album has touched me and resonated back like no other album ever done. it makes you happy and sad at the same time. the lyrics, the compositions, the notes, every piece that come together on this disc have a sublime quality. it's one of those rare musical moments that you want to keep hidden, only to yourself. i wonder if telepopmusik can ever top this mesmerizing classic. cannot praise enough and words will not do justice to describe. thank you, with tears and a with a smile. Editorial Reviews: If there were an award for the album with the most appropriate title, surely Telepopmusik's Angel Milk would be a top contender (possibly pipped to the top slot by Metal Machine Music. But this record is miles away from Lou Reed's deliberate atonal noise, and would therefore win any award thanks to its delightful content. Anyone familiar with the template set by Genetic World will be surely chomping at the bit for the goodies on display here. All the familiar elements are in place--the candyfloss-light beats, the grandeur of the orchestral washes, the hints of discordant electronica and clatter--but wrapped up in the most laid-back accessible tunes you could want. The use of three vocalists--the Kelis-like Angela McCluskey, rapper Mau, and new addition Deborah Anderson, whose breathy tones lend an extra sheen to her songs--only adds to the appeal. Comparisons to Air's Moon Safari are inevitable, but a closer relation would be Zero 7's Simple Things. Even then, there's diversion here, like the perfect should-be Bassey showtune of "Love Almighty," or the deceptive ending of "15 Minutes" which lasts that long, but is about a minute of tune, followed by 14 minutes of silence.
