Summary: The Next Step...and the First of Mellencamp
Comment: After the strong but Top 40 style of "American Fool", this album took John a solid step further; the radio ready "Crumblin' Down" broke no new ground, but the biting commentary of the second single, "Pink Houses" showed his disdain for American society; and "The Authority Song" was a fun anti-establishment rant. These strong singles provided the foundation for his most daring songwriting yet, on 1985's ""Scarecrow". The rest of the album, though, is well-played but kind of formulaic in topic - "Play Guitar" and "Serious Business" in particular.

Comment: I bought this cd for my fiancee but have found myself listening to it more often than her. Just good solid Mellencamp at his best. Despite the suspect looking cover its a great album!

Summary: A very good rock album
Comment: John Mellencamp really started to come into his own with this mid-1980's release. He reclaimed his real name (from the record company moniker of John Cougar)and he cut loose with some great rockers. He showed hints of his social consciousness with "Pink Houses," letting the Ronald Reagan generation know that not everyone was living the American Dream. He showed he was still the bad boy with "Crumblin' Down", "Play Guitar," "Authority Song," and "Serious Business." Just around the corner for Mellencamp was his career masterpiece, Scarecrow. UH-Huh is a very good all-around rock album and is always fun to listen to.

Comment: I have been waiting for the acoustic version of 'Pink Houses' to appear on a remastered CD. I bought the CD upon reading about it, and that version alone was worth the price of admission. 'Scarecrow" gets lots of attention, but 'Uh-huh' contained great music, including the best song of the 80's, "Pink Houses." I think Mellencamp keeps getting better.
