Summary: Three strong, soaring women's voices
Comment: Charming Hostess have moved from Walter Benjamin to the poetry of Sem Mehmedinovic, written during the siege of Sarajevo. Their ability to capture the essence of Mehmedinovic's poetry and then make the songs _rock_ is amazing. Also included on the album are some traditional Jewish Ladino songs from Bosnia, a Yiddish poem by Celia Dropkin translated into and sung in Hebrew, and a wonderful Arabic traditional song, Aish Y'Kdish. The music reminds me of a Balkan "Sweet Honey in the Rock" or what "Zap Mama" might sound like if they were exploring the Balkans and the Middle East, but still weren't giving away their African song roots. Amazing.
