Customer Rating: Summary: "A Theater for a Story" Comment: Well, that's what host, Robert Herridge, smoking cigarette in hand, calls this performance during his introduction of Miles Davis.
Irrespective of the sub par video, it's wonderful to have a video of this legendary quintet along with Gil Evans and his orchestra. The production value of this performance is about bad and dull as you can imagine. Even the cover photo is boring and there is absolutely nothing but the cd itself. That's patently insulting to these legendary artists and their many fans. That and the sub par video is the reason I only gave it four stars and at that, I almost only gave it three.
My favorite track is "So What." It is taken at slightly a faster clip than the version on "Kinda Blue." In fact, just fast enough that it has a sense of urgency that I like better than the album version and that translates into more concise and inspired solos from Miles and Trane. Where I might differ, is that I like Bill Evans' work on the original better than Wynton Kelly's on this DVD. And dig the marvelous Paul Chambers' swinging bass lines.
Fans of this era of American Jazz just gotta pick this one up.
Customer Rating: Summary: Looks and sounds like a rented VHS Comment: Bad quality both on sound and picture. The first DVD I recieved stopped after two cuts. Got a new one from Amazon with no costs for me. Good service from Amazon!
Scenes are known from other DVDs with better quality. If you should choose one DVD with Miles, pick another one - almost anyone!

Customer Rating: Summary: Strike two Comment: This is the second copy of this DVD I've order. The first one was defective and so is this one. I think it might be the recording was not transfered properly to DVD. It's to bad because it's a great performance of Miles and Coltrane at the peak of their powers, I've seen it before. I am gonna try one more time and see if I get a good copy it's worth it. But 3 strikes an your out!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Great music, but a unsatisfactory picture and only 25 minutes long. Comment: Kick ass performance, good for a one time watch but at only 25 minutes and with a less than stellar picture I can't see shelling out 15 clams for it. I did like the way the camera moved around, at one point even showing Miles in the background off stage taking a smoke break while the other guys are rockin' out.
