Summary: entertaining signing
Comment: Highly entertaining video for my <1 yo son, with many visuals of both real animals and toys. Good upbeat music also held his attention.

Summary: Great for children with developmental delay in speech
Comment: At age 18 months my son was diagnosed with developmental delay and at age two and a half he is really finally starting to communicate with picture exchange cards, some words and signs. We ordered My Baby Can Talk First Signs and the follow-up video too when he was a year old, realizing he should be talking and wasn't. The signing videos have been awesome in helping with his language comprehension and we still get very excited about the new signs he learns every time we watch. We ordered other signing videos as well and my son definitely prefers My Baby Can Talk over the rest. As soon as he was able to focus enough to gesture, he started learning signs. It's the neatest thing in the world to see him signing "horses!horses!horses!" as Disney's Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron and his herd run across the TV screen.

Summary: Great series
Comment: My daughter (18 months now!) loves this series. She laughs and claps whenever I put it on.
We started showing her the series at about 7 months but she didn't get interested until about 13 months. I was shocked at how quickly she began making signs at that point.
Some reviewers are critical about all the animal signs on this DVD but if you think about it, animals are VERY fascinating to children. When you show this series to a baby, you aren't just teaching them important words for them to know (eat, milk, more, etc.) but are teaching them the actually concept of words and communication. Getting them to keep watching by showing the animals and animal signs is helpful. One of my daughter's first signs was dog and she was thrilled when she realized she had been able to make me understand her. She learned additional signs rapidly after that breakthrough.
Her verbal skills are expanding rapidly at this point but her pronunciation is still horrible - like most toddlers, only mommy and daddy can understand what she says. Signing lets her get her point across much more easily so she feels far less frustrated.

Summary: Still a favorite DVD
Comment: I purchased this DVD for my son when he was 9 months old and he is now two. While he didn't necessarily use or even learn all of the signs, he did learn the ones that were useful to him before he could talk, like "more" and "milk". More than anything, I think this DVD helped him to learn to identify different animals and learn to say different words. This was his favorite "show" to watch for a long time, and he still asks to watch it, long past the time that I thought it would continue to hold his attention.

Summary: Success With a 7 Month Old
Comment: I have been trying to learn and use the signs for the last 4 months. If anything, my then 3 month old loved watching my hand movements. Yesterday, towards the end of the day, Molly started really fussing. The crying continued, but I checked, she wasn't wet. She had an hour before the bottle was due, and she had had a 3rd nap that day. I thought it must be teething pain, and rushed to get her medicine. All of a sudden my husband started yelling for me "look-look! You want milk little girl?" Molly was signing milk with her right hand! As my husband quickly got her into her PJs, Molly kicked and screamed, the whole time signing "milk." I prepared the bottle, and when we gave it to her, it was the calmest, most peaceful feeding. It was a beautiful moment, over an hour sooner than my husband or I thought she needed food. I'm grateful for what we have learned through the My Baby Can Talk series, and for it's role in enhancing our communication with our 7 month old. I truly can not believe the results.
