Summary: Porcupine Tree - The First Album Of The Modern Era
Comment: I like to categorize "Signify" as the first CD of the modern era of Porcupine Tree. It is quite different from their previous efforts up to this point, yet stunning in it's creativity. The first hints of metal would weave it's way into the album, especially with the title track "Signify", a trait that the band continues to this day. There is a wealth of classic material to be found on this one. The album contains more vocal tracks than ever before, but also features plenty of instrumental stuff as well. Songs like "Sleep Of No Dreaming", "Waiting", "Sever", and "Intermediate Jesus" have become classics in the Porcupine Tree catalogue. This album is another essential must own for fans of the band.

Summary: Fantastic Band/Album
Comment: Just saw the tree here in Atlanta (10/29/07) last night at the Roxy Theater. What a band, polished and professional! These guys should be playing Stadiums instead of 1000 seat halls. As a musician I really appreciate bands that blend musical complexity with highly listenable tunes. This album is really well done. I suggest listening to the following tracks 1. The Sleep of No Dreaming 2. Waiting Phase One 3. Dark Matter. This is a great album. Also give the albums In Absentia,Darkwing and Fear of a Blank Planet a listen (All Excellent!) Happy listening.

Summary: This is Greatness
Comment: I had never heard of porcupine tree, but now I've been speared upon their spiny leaves of musical exploration. I've been searching an finally found a band that is different. This album comes off as a voyage. Progressive rock evolved from the days of Yes and Rennaissance. Their is a lot of nice variation in the voyage as we go from balledesque type stuff to a hard rocking sound to a few folksie places. Lots of good sound effects and experimentation inbetween. This is a very talented outfit. I'm enriched to have finally discovered them. If you don't know them, you should really check this one out.

Summary: Liked other P. T. recordings better
Comment: I like other Porcupine Tree CDs much better. This disc is a little too moody for for my taste, it drifts. In spite of this luke warm review, this is a GREAT band!!

Summary: An interesting departure from earlier work
Comment: Steven Wilson never sits still. "Signify" is a move in a pleasant direction. There's still some of the atmospheric stuff that marked earlier works such as "The Sky Moves Sideways" and "Up the Downstair" but there are also slightly more upbeat -- musically if not lyrically -- ballads. "Sever," not written by Wilson, is one of the highlights in my opinion. "Dark Matter," the moody closer to disk one, is another of the best song. The bonus CD contains demos and unreleased stuff. Among the most enjoyable is the acoustic version of "Nine Cats." You could sing along to it with your kids without a worry.
