Customer Rating: Summary: Brilliant1 Comment: The title says it all.
This is by far the best cast, Colm Wilkinson and Philip Quast are perfect as ValJean and Javert. I bought this recording specifically for the cast having watched the original concert. If you love Les Mis, or even if you are a first timer - you should be buying this recording.
My next purchase will be the accompanying DVD!
Customer Rating: Summary: Wow Comment: This is awesome. I own this on VHS (will be going DVD soon) and have been meaning to get this forever. Agreeing with other reviewers, the vocalists are AWESOME! I've not heard any of the other recordings, so I cannot comment as to how it compares to them. I can't see any being better than this, but there is a small chance I could be wrong. But, if you own the DVD (or VHS for that matter) three words: PICK THIS UP!
Customer Rating: Summary: Les Miserables CD Comment: A truly magnificent recording of "Les Miserables" from the Albert Hall in London, UK, I would recommend this CD to anybody. This live recording deserves a place in everybodys library.

Customer Rating: Summary: when you can't get enough of a good thing Comment: even though this recording does not have my favorite Javier (Chuck Wagner) Phillip Quast is good and the music and the rest of the cast is magic as always. I never get tired of playing it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Pure Perfection Comment: If you are to buy one Les Miserables album, this is the one to have. With a cast that includes Phillip Quast, Colm Wilkinson, Ruthie Henshall, Michael Ball, Judy Kuhn, and Lea Salonga, it can do no wrong. Each of the actors is absolutely perfect for the role-exactly as I pictured them while reading the novel-EXCEPT Lea Salonga, who, ironically, gives the best performance of the whole cast.
I will admit that those who have complained that Lea is not suited for Eponine are correct: She is neither ugly nor does she have a terrible voice. The key word here is terrible. Yes, Eponine should not sound pretty. However, even I, a very strong novel purist, will say that I would rather have Lea Salonga bring tears to my eyes as Eponine than some other girl make me wince every time she opens her mouth for a song (Here, I refer to the Complete Symphonic Recording. Perfect Eponine, very painful to hear).
All I can say is get it. It is worth every penny.

To celebrate 10 years as the world's most popular musical, the cast of Les Misérables threw a phenomenal birthday party at London's Royal Albert Hall in 1995. A decade after Trevor Nunn directed its premiere at the Barbican Centre, and the subsequent move into what became a permanent home at the West End Palace Theatre, producer Cameron Macintosh felt the time had come for a little outing for "the miserables." Conductor David Charles Abell, having climbed out of the cluttered Palace pit, for one glorious night has the entire Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at his disposal and there are appearances from over 150 singers--birthday celebs from Les Mis stagings worldwide--who flocked to the grandiose venue. Hosts for the night are the 1995 London cast: Colm Wilkinson's Valjean has power and beauty in "Who Am I?" and "Bring Him Home," and Michael Ball is a charming Marius. Miss Saigon herself, Lea Salonga, gets the crowd-pleasing favorite "On My Own." The Albert Hall sounds filled to the brim with an appreciative audience that contributes to the festive atmosphere. The result is a real treat for fans and lovers of Boubil and Schönberg's greatest musical--this double CD is an obligatory item in every collection of Les Mis memorabilia. --Yngvil V.G.
