Summary: An accomplishment; heavenly
Comment: I must start off by mentioning the fact that I have no musical ability what so ever-I am just a music lover. I used to arrange my record albums, not by composer, but by key; key of G or major or minor..what ever. So, a concerto might be stacked next to a symphony if it were written in the same key, etc. I went to concerts and read record jackets and the like and tried to make friends with people who did know something about music or played an instrument. I never realized how many differing opinions there could be! I still disagree with those from whom I learned so much (especially those who play piano) when it comes to Arthur Rubenstein. I dislike some of his Chopin, for which he is famous, as I feel they are played too fast-but, disagree that he had a 'heavy foot' on the pedal in other pieces. Rubenstein plays Brahams to perfection or least to my untrained ear who has witnessed live the great Horowitz on two separate occasions. I mention this in my review so that you understand my point of view. Loving the Mozart Clarinet Concerto I decided to buy it after watching (the movie) Out of Africa in which the piece is played throughout. I got on line and read all the reviews on this piece and decided (because of what I mentioned above) to purchase this rendition. It is wonderful and I am listening to it as I write. You will not be disappointed. I learned from reading other peoples' reviews and am not disappointed. Hope this review helps especially the untrained ear to make a decision.

Summary: Motzart & Stoltzman
Comment: I think this recording which has been around for awhile is still one of the best of the Motzart Concerto. K622. Not everyone will agree with Mr. Stoltzmans' ornamentation which is at times a more modern take than a period one. Patterns that should fall on the beat don't always and trills start on lower rather than upper notes. Minutia really....with his great artistry and beautiful tone the spirit of Mozart abounds! The slow movement in particular is just luscious. The orchestra is really not up to Mr. Stolzmans' high standards and the recording doesn't have the fidelity one hopes for. It is very top heavy and the strings are often harsh sounding. The Quintet has fine ensemble and is better recorded. All in all this is a must for clarinet and Motzart fans.

Summary: Gorgeous performances of great music
Comment: The clarinet concerto was the last work which Mozart completed (his final work, the Requiem, was left unfinished) and, thus, represents Mozart at the height of his extraordinary skills. It is an exceptionally beautiful piece of music and I have never heard it played as beautifully as on this CD. Some listeners may say that Stoltzman's performance is too "Romantic" for the Classical period within which Mozart composed. But Romanticism was just around the corner at the end of Mozart's life and, in fact, with the adagio of this clarinet concerto -- as well as the andante of his 21st piano concerto -- Mozart essentially initiated Romanticism. Therefore, I think that Stoltzman's gorgeous performance of the adagio is entirely appropriate. The clarinet quintet (featured in the last episode of the TV series MASH) is also superbly played. This is one of the most outstanding CDs I have ever heard in any genre and now it has been remastered and reissued at a bargain price. If you love beautiful music, please do yourself a favor and buy this CD.

Summary: How Can You Review God?
Comment: Mozart's clarinet concerto belongs in a circle of heaven shared only with his clarinet quintet, and I say that even though I'm not a clarinetist. I came looking for a performance of the quintet which seems not to be listed, but I found this CD instead, which I've heard at a friend's house.Stoltzman plays with lots of humanity but no surprising technical insights. This is a good performance of such great music that you can't go wrong, especially with both masterpieces on one disk for less than $8.00

Summary: Bravo!
Comment: I purchased this CD as a gift for my husband who is an accomplished musician and professional clarinet instructor. He declared this performance by Stoltzman and the English Chamber Orchestra 'outstanding'...and I too love listening to it. Bravo!!
