Customer Rating: Summary: Rise and shine... Comment: Wonderful CD from Randy Travis. He has a great way of singing the old hymns and making them new again.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Job Randy Travis Comment: I really like Randy Travis is neat see Country Artist going the Christian way an seeing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Good plain gospel album Comment: Actually, this is the most modern gospel music that I have. I suppose it's not as grandiose as a lot of gospel albums by Nashville artists but I don't think that's a bad thing. I'm not up on contemporary gospel music but the arrangements of the old familiar ones on this are great.
I love that this album isn't as "polished" (as some of the reviews have said) as a lot of other country gospel albums. I wouldn't even say it's less polished, though. It's much less egotistical than most; one gets the impression that Travis was more about the songs than about trying to make it all about himself and how-original-can-I-be? The arrangements are clean and straightforward (there's a great guitar break on "I'll Fly Away") without being boring. I could listen, especially, to "Sweet By and By" and "Peace in the Valley" all day long. Great listening and great for singing along.
Customer Rating: Summary: Front porch music! Comment: You don't have to be particularly religious to enjoy this cd. Down-home comfort music just doesn't come any better. I'd start namin' off favorites, but nearly every song is a potential earworm.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great bluegrass touch, masterful delivery! Comment: Oh, how perfect could it be! This Randy Travis worship album is perfect all the way around. Not only does it present excellent bluegrass arrangments (this music is REAL- you can even hear the picks stricking the strings of the instruments!), but Randy's sweet, emotional voice makes all of these old songs a brand new experience.
Highlights of the album include gentle renditions of old favorites, like "How Great Thou Art" and "Softly and Tenderly". The two songs are favorites of the common singer to overdramatize. But Randy brings to them the deep emotion that makes his voice a once in a generation phenomenon. Randy also stirs the heart with passion filled worship songs. I have never cared for praise and worship music, especially when I heard singers like Michael W. Smith scratching them out line by repetitious line. But Randy brought to these songs a true sense of worship. With his own unique style he transformed songs I had never cared for into beautiful songs of praise to the Lord. My favorites are "I Will Give You All My Worhsip" and "Crucified".
You will enjoy this album, and his new "Glory Train" is a nice accompaniment. This album has a bluegrass flavor, while "Glory Train" adds spirituals, jazz, and many other styles. They both are unqiue and enjoyable. They are also all REAL music- nothing on the two albums is electronic- a lost art for today's "singers".
