Summary: great toscanini favorites
Comment: Toscanini outdoes himself with this terrific boxed set of all nine of Beethoven's symphonies. The music is lavish and the sound quaility is outstanding. The price for all that you get is very good too. I would recommend this to any classical music lover.

Comment: Great composition except my box set contained only 7 symphonies. I'm guessing their quality control isn't very good!! If anyone out there got my CD #4 with Symphonies 7 & 8, I'll be glad to swap for my extra CD #5 with Symphonie 9. Don't you just love screw-ups????

Summary: Interpretations
Comment: Music can be rendered numerically to be reproduced electronically, but it lacks the warmth of a human interpretation. And that is where the difference lies. It is not simply the series of notes, the crescendos and decrescendos, tempo or orchestration that distinguishes different conductors. Difference lies in that indefinable quality of interpretation.
Toscanini produced some really fine performances. This interpretation of Beethoven's work just doesn't do it for me. Good quality recording - simply not a personal favorite.

Summary: My mixed emotions... Ehh... Mhh... Khee..Khee
Comment: 1. The performance is first class! It is rich, esthetically pleasing, lyric and heroic performance! It is not your average overhyped and empty Karajan
2. The CD transfer quality is ridiculous. Man, it is 21st century, we are accustomed to great sound. Unfortunately, as one reviewer mentioned, there's very distinctive hiss and the production engineer must suffered from hearing problems.
3. If you enjoyed this (minus hiss that is really show stopper) see Beethoven Symphonies 1,2,3,4,5,6 and Classical Art galleries MosaicDVD 2008, 2DVDs set that is terrific and one of the kind.
4. Please republish this one with hiss fixed, it is superb performance, from first to the last note.

Summary: Substandard recording
Comment: On ALL the CDs in this collection a very storng and audible hissing can be heard. Initially I thought my sound system has gone mad, but other CDs - not from this set - sound just fine.
What a pitty, since the music and the performance are excellent (I guess).
