Comment: Okay, sorry--lame review title.
So, it's a little swing, a little jazz, a little Cajun. They're great musicians, very polished but fun; the tunes and the words are both good (with English translations in the liner notes where needed for those of us whose Cajun is not up to par). A lot of the revival-esque bands out there now are good but not THIS good; these guys are the picks of the litter.

Comment: Keep your eye on these guy's, they are destined for great things. One of the best live performances I have seen for a while. Both albums are great. Met them in Philadelphia, real nice folks too.

Comment: I heard the Red Stick Ramblers on WUMB Boston Folk and fell in love with them. I couldn't find the CD anywhere in Madison, WI so ordered it from Amazon.com. It's our "summer pick" for road trips this season. I would love to hear them in person. Thank you WUMB Boston Folk for turning me on to this fabulous group of musicians.

Summary: The Ramblers Roar - Excellent Cajun/Western Swing/Jazz
Comment: The Red Stick Ramblers hail from Louisiana and this CD showcases their collective talents that feature twin fiddles, a tight rhythm section, guitar, mandolin and strong vocals. This band offers a tasty blend of Cajun, Western Swing, and Django-style jazz. Three Western Swing tunes take the cake on this CD - the title cut (Bring It on Down to My House), Stay All Night, and Dinah. These tracks feature tight fiddling, strong vocals, and a rhythm section that pushes the band at just the right tempos. It's enough to make you say "aaaahhh". Talented fiddler Linzay Young provides lead vocals on many of the tunes and his vocal range and inflection are perfect for the arrangements. A number of originals including Main Street Blues and Rattle My Cage are very strong tunes. The mournful fiddle at the beginning of Rattle My Cage is very haunting, enough to deliver chills upon repeated listenings. Cajun tunes that show up here include Two Step des Condanmés (featuring Cajun accordion wizard Steve Riley) and Parting Waltz. If you enjoy music from southwest Louisiana and Texas, then you'll like this CD. On this release, this band of relatively young players proves that they really can bring it with the best. As an added note, the Ramblers have had some recent turnover in the band and the new players include Kevin Wimmer (from Balfa Toujours), one of the best fiddlers in SW Louisiana. I saw the band, complete with the new lineup, in mid-Sept. 2004 where they roared through a very nice set at Festivals Acadiens in Lafayette. If you get the chance to see the Ramblers live, be prepared to dance.
