Customer Rating: Summary: Dwight Rocks! Comment: Dwight Yoakam is my favorite new wave country-western stars. His versatility as an entertainer was proven in Sling Blade. He does wear that hat for a reason! I purchased another album "under the covers" where Mr. Yoakam played other artists hits and his twang is pure country and adds to the fun of doing covers. This has a great collection of songs and I would have given it five stars except for the addition of "T for Texas" which was already released on "under the covers". I do not know why this was included except for filler. This man can do no wrong because he sings from the heart and his stories sometimes reflect me in them.I do not own every Dwight Yoakam album , but I am working on it.Buy this if you are a fan or are looking for something different. In either case you will be satisfied.
Customer Rating: Summary: + 1/2 stars...The Last Roundup from Reprise Comment: When Dwight Yoakam's tenure at Reprise came to an end, they took the opportunity to round up individual tracks from various tibute and soundtrack albums (along with one then new track "Louisville") to cobble together this album. While not as essential as 2003's DWIGHT'S USED RECORDS, this is an indispensible addition for anyone who appreciates Yoakam's gift for interpreting other artists' songs
The highlight is his mournful take on Merle Haggard's "Holding Things Together." But Yoakam is up to the challenge of covering everything from Elvis's rockabilly "Mystery Train" to the swing of Bob Wills' "New San Antonio Rose," the yodelling "Cowboy Call" to the Grateful Dead's "Truckin'."
And after hearing Yoakam perform with Earl and Randy Scruggs on "Borrowed Love" and his take on Bill Monroe's "Rocky Road Blues," I'm ready for Yoakam to release an all bluegrass album. [Running Time - 36:10] HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Customer Rating: Summary: True Grit Comment: "Teeeeee fo' texasss" - man, i cant listen to this song enough! i dig Dwights music so much, and his covers are just as cool. Jimmie Rodgers, Merle Haggard, Bill Monroe etc. His choice of Legends to cover on this album is prophetic, almost ironic, because im sure in time his name will be among theirs in the definition of country icon. I cant say enough about guitarist Pete Anderson either. He deserves so much more attention than he gets for being such a gifted and clever musician .Its a crime that neither Dwight nor Pete get the credit,or radio airplay that is awarded to the stale, unoriginal pop backwash cluttering country radio these days. My hat (if i wore one) is off to both. Long Live the Outlaws!
Customer Rating: Summary: Another great Dwight collection Comment: There for awhile, Dwight was releasing a handful of "cover" albums, and this one is another fine example. The material he chose here is quite diverse; which makes it all the more amazing how well the songs are delivered! There's the Mrele Haggard "Holding Things Together" right up there next to the Dead's "Truckin'". Eddie Arnold's "Cattle Call" and Will's "San Antonio Rose" right along with Bluegrass standards "Borrowed Love" and "Louisville". Throw in a funky "T for Texas" and Haggard flavored "Rapid City South Dakota", and you have a fun-filled album that will become part of your CD rotation. A+

Editorial Reviews:

The best of Dwight Yoakam first heard on tribute albums and elsewhere has finally been collected on its own album, In Other's Words. Spanning more than a decade, 1991-2002, and culled from several different labels, the unique compilation features 10 tracks as well as Asleep At The Wheel and a collaboration with Earl Scruggs. Reprise. 2003.
