Summary: Great trio tracks
Comment: This is a very fine record, indeed. The quintet tracks are fine, but what makes this such a marvellous record are the trio tracks where this wonderful tenor player is so finely accompanied by the guitarist Skeeter Best and the great bass player, Oscar Pettiford. I just love the way Mr Thompson improvises here, so deeply traditional but at the same time so very personal and exciting. I don't think there is any finer record with this supreme saxophone player.
